I've thought that people should pay some sort of a "classroom charge" for materials used during this engine class. Those that can't attend can also pay a fee and we will have someone post pictures on Rennlist, so those that couldn't be here benefit from the day...kind of a type of "picture" classroom.

I'm thinking that we will "kick this class off", this year, by disasssembling and re-assembling a 4.7 liter 2 valve junkyard engine...which have little or no value due to the nature of the ecomony, but are excellent engines to learn from.

At the end of the day, we ill be auctioning off the resulting engine, to the highest bidder. I don't have room to store engines, especially one of this type. The buyer will benefit from the pieces replaced, but at considerable risk, due to the "classroom" nature of the building of the engine.

This will be a "hands-on" class, where the participants can actually help. We will be carefully inspecting pieces and teaching what makes one piece "bad" and another piece reusable.

If anyone is interested, let me know, and I'll start a separate thread, with this classroom idea.

Excellent idea. That's something worth flying in for IMHO.

Ahahahaha.....Brilliant! I bet it would work.

Better yet, pull the cam and grind off the lobes for that cylinder and disconnect the injector.

OTOH simple solution, build the motor and sell it on ebay, as is, pick up only, student project motor, may be missing some parts, no returns, cash deposit required at end of auction. Should go for about 99 cents.
This thought occurred to me, on the Accusump. Perhaps a "Buy it now" price of $10.00. The intended buyer would have to be right there, waiting for the auction.

EXCELLENT IDEA DOC

I'm in.......................labor is FREE for lemons....if you don't pay for the labor then it DOESN'T COUNT....the engine shortblock is "free" and the rest of the engine I have & will bring down..so the only thing I need to pay for is the parts...say a gasket set and whatever else is needed.........

Talk about the power of rennlist, Doc Brown and Mark Anderson being SUPER COOL....this is just excellent...... lets make this happen!!! I come down with the blown up engine and we'll fix it up!!! WOW and it might actually last for a while..................SUPER COOL

He got a big break--found a buyer for the Widow so he could have a budget for Lemons. Just in the nick of time.

just when I thought I was at the absolute bottom of 928 land....owning three race-ish 928's and not one of them runs..... I find a buyer for the widow (which I miss already)...then find out what killed the lemons racer...then get a GREAT offer to fix it & stay within our lemons budget.....the power of Rennlist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There might be light at the end of the 928 tunnel for me after all

Now that you mention it, I have a partial set I can give to the cause. No head gaskets though. Mostly small gaskets and seals, but I'm sure there is a oil pan gasket in there.

Brian, I'll pull it out and get it to you if you want it. Give me a call.

The rules for Lemons does not allow free donated parts , trust me on that.....they MUST buy them ! and document it . Although everyone KNOWS it is just a story it needs to look like it might be possible. So everything going to Brian (that shows) really needs to be listed on Craigslist or E-bay to establish a "real" cost.
