Just got back home - in one piece... I melted a bit from the lack of a working AC, but otherwise everything went fine.
It was nice to see everybody again!
Thanks to all those of you who came by my vendor table and checked out (or purchased) my goods.

Here are some shots from the fun drive today. 9 cars left from 928 Intl. about 9:30ish. This was the first shake down run since all the work I've done to the car in the last few months. It was a hell of a good time for as long as it lasted for us. My car ran great and had no problems at the first stop. The second stop after the first climb up the hill was a different story. The transmission started making some noise as we were ascending. I also noticed the car running a little hotter than usual. (just at the top of the normal range. While waiting to start the next leg, a water leak sprung from the only hose I didn't replace. ![ducking](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/icon107.gif)
It was the small return hose between the two radiator hoses on the block. There was enough hose that I could cut a piece off and re-clamp it. Since my toolkit was missing the screwdriver handle, I would have been sunk if not for being in the group. Special thanks to Jim and Sue Corenman for loaning me a flat blade to perform the repair (it will be in the mail tomorrow). I had fortunately brought a gallon of distilled water with me. And it was about all that was need to top it off. On the trip back down the mountain I kept it in neutral until I need to apply power towards the bottom. Fortunately, the sound had stopped, and the temp was normal. Once on a freeway, I noticed that the tranny would not shift into fourth unless I shifted into neutral then back into drive. The rest of the drive home was smooth.![thumbup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/thumbup.gif)
I think the transmission fluid level is too low. I will dig into it tomorrow afternoon and report the findings. We had a blast driving with the group. I can't wait until we can do it again.

On my way home (Phoenix) from Sharktoberdest I decided to take the PCH south. After a a few hours I found myself in San Diego, at the USS Midway exhibit. This was fun, but in three hours I only saw the flight deck, Hanger deck, and island. I need to go back and spend more time there.
Here are a couple of 928 related shots,
1- Size comparison, 928 vs Midway.
2. 928 from flight deck.

Good times... I haven't found the time yet to go through my pictures & video, but will try to get to it soon. As usual, I really enjoyed meeting old friends and making new ones.

Really nice to see new and familiar faces & cars. Some of you missed out on a rather lively and amusing lunchtime conversation.

I noticed that just south of the hotel off the 60 freeway is a huge carting/racing facility that apparently used to be a Malibu Grand Prix. I think some consideration might be given to reserving some time there for future events in lieu of or in addition to the fun drive.

Did anybody get contact information on the guy selling his 18,000 mile 89 S4?
I helped him with an serious overheating problem he said just started after he had a shop replace the T-stat simply because of the age of the car. I suspected the shop may have put the T-stat in incorrectly, so we decided to open it up and take a look. No, the shop had done a nice job. Even the seat in the waterbridge looked new and the T-stat and o-ring were fine. Still we replaced the T-stat and o-ring per chance it was bad.
Anyway, I saw him later, and he reported the overheating was not as bad. But it was still real bad in my book as he was getting close to the red zone on any grade even w/o AC on. Could be a bunch of things, which I mentioned to him, BUT I completely forgot to check or mention the airflow control flaps. Perhaps the fuse had blown and these were staying closed.
The owner lives in Reno. If anybody knows him or how to contact him, let me know.
BTW, it's a STUNNING original car, absolutely immaculate. He's asking $27K (gulp!).

Unfortunately, I have to report that I had a run-in with a rock slide coming down Rim of the World. No serious damage, just looks like I'd been keyed twice, about 4 inches long in parallel about 1 inch apart, in front of the passenger door.
