You might consider flying into Ontario. Less congested than SNA or LAX for sure, and likely easier to get to the hotel on Friday. Traffic is heading east while you are heading west. It's typically less pricey than the other two, but there are fewer flight options.

I'll be flying out of Columbus, OH, or perhaps Cincinatti if it makes more sense (2 hour drive). Just learned about Deltanet. Gotta go through the tutrial so I can list myself.

Anything that goes from CVG to SNA..or ONT will pass though SLC.

Salt lake is easy to get into, but often a PITA to get out of...flights look ok so far though
There are CVG-LAX direct nonstop flights. Ill check on it..and give you a call and a run down on DLnet. Even you cant DUFF it up.
The key will be for you to use carrier " DL" as in the screen shot above since CVG is a DL hub. If you select NW it will probaly route you via DTW or MSP..
just make a bunch of bogus listings for practice.
