FWIW.
I asked jokingly... Louie answered with a straight face, but I think he was joking... but he proceeded to tell me about some strange concoctions that didn't sound a whole lot less dangerous.

Another favorite. I've seen them in concert locally 3 times in as many years, and they never disappoint.

I don't think Louie was joking... He told me and a small group the same thing... something that is over $100/gal! YOWZA! He was happy to find out that EtOH (I think that is what it ended up being) was every bit as effective...

He is the 928 mad scientist!

Here's what I think Louie told us he used for a few tests.. Proved to be quite the oxidizer..so he switched to standard stuff like methanol..

Hydrazine readily ties up oxygen when heated. Wonder why you would want that sprayed into the intake bells...

I don't recall him ever saying Hydrazine the times I heard him talk about what he was doing...

As he has little use for it, like me, I think Louie runs Aquanet through those injectors. Everybody's seen how that stuff flames when a match is applied.

I helped him with an serious overheating problem he said just started after he had a shop replace the T-stat simply because of the age of the car. I suspected the shop may have put the T-stat in incorrectly, so we decided to open it up and take a look. No, the shop had done a nice job. Even the seat in the waterbridge looked new and the T-stat and o-ring were fine. Still we replaced the T-stat and o-ring per chance it was bad.

Anyway, I saw him later, and he reported the overheating was not as bad. But it was still real bad in my book as he was getting close to the red zone on any grade even w/o AC on. Could be a bunch of things, which I mentioned to him, BUT I completely forgot to check or mention the airflow control flaps. Perhaps the fuse had blown and these were staying closed.

The owner lives in Reno. If anybody knows him or how to contact him, let me know.

BTW, it's a STUNNING original car, absolutely immaculate. He's asking $27K (gulp!).
Guess what? It WAS the airflow control flaps. Called the guy after I got his # from another lister, found the flaps stuck closed. Disabled them in the open position and his car is no longer overheating.

Ha! Score another one: heading north from San Diego a few days after S'fest, we noted the GT running pretty warm- close to the second white line, a bit over on the grades... I remembered this post and checked the flaps when we stopped, and sure enough- closed tight! The ball-fitting had come out of the little crank-arm on the motor and the air pressure had apparently forced the flaps closed. A cable-tie secured them open until we got home and fixed it properly (with a dab of JB-weld).

Thanks!!
