Great photo guys. By chance did any of you find a small black camera case with I think 3-4 memory cards in it at OCIC? I have the camera but can't find my case.

Great photo's, Ed!! Besides being technically perfect they are very nicely composed, I am in awe of your skills.

Are you uploading those to a separate site and then linking to them? I keep running into the 150K limit for including photos as attachments.

I used PicasaWeb for the smaller size photos I included a few pages back, but PicasaWeb doesn't allow embedding of photos any bigger than 800 pixels tall/wide and might degrade the photos at upload time; I think they get re-compressed or something. The Picasa (desktop software) / PicasaWeb (web-based sharing) combination is great for quickly sharing a large quantity of photos, but it's not necessarily so great for sharing large, high-quality photos. I got a real sense of that when I put together that gargantuan thread "Vacation 2008, photos and such (National Parks, etc.)" about a year ago: all done with PicasaWeb hosting, but that didn't do some of the better photos justice, so I hosted a few of those in higher quality ones (like this, these, this, and this) myself and stuck them in the "Rennlister Photography Thread" thread over in the Off-Topic forum.

So... on these bigger 2009 OCIC ones I posted more recently, I uploaded them to my Rennlist member site via FTP, which then are accessible via HTTP, making them nice and embeddable here in the forum.

And for a lot photos that I don't expect to be downloaded that much (like the previously-mentioned high-quality vacation ones), I'll just stick them on my own website that I host using a server here at home. Our upstream bandwidth is pretty bad (ADSL is the best we can do where we live), so I've got to be careful with that.

BTW, Jim, I enjoyed meeting you and Sue at the OCIC. And I hope to have reason to be using your SharkTuner software add-on within the next year or so.

Oh... and thanks for your other comments.

Default Edited HD Video/DVD

I edited together about 20 minutes of HD video from some parts of the event, and created a HUGE .wmv file. It looks awesome, but it is too large (over 800MB) to host on most sites. (YouTube has a 10 minute limit), so here's a standard definition version of it. It's about 100MB, so you might need to download it before watching depending on your connection speed.

http://www.doncarter.us/Videos/OCIC SD.wmv

I also made a DVD of the same video and will be sending a copy to the organizers of OCIC. If anyone else wants a copy please PM me so I can see how much interest there is. The video on the DVD is exactly what's in the video linked above. I wasn't able to video every part of the weekend's events (some probably shouldn't be on video right?), but did get most of the highlights (other than the white beast on the dyno). Sorry if the soundtrack is not to your taste, but I thought the hard driving tunes fit the 928.

Edit: I was going to sell the DVD for $10, but then it occurred to me that the music is copyrighted, so just to be safe, this DVD is NOT for sale. (But if you want a copy, go ahead and PM me and we'll see what we can work out)

Here's a shot of the DVD Menu

I'm thinking $10 would be fair (shipping included) and I will also include the 800MB High Definition PC file that can played on your PC (looks better than DVD), and the high resolution panoramic shot from the 2nd story, and other high res photos I took. This will probably be 2 DVDs unless I can figure out how to make a dual mode DVD.

Don, would you like me to post to RennTube? There is no time limit and the video file size is currently set to 200MB.

[I can also give you 30+ standard def [800x600] movies from the dyno]

If you want to post the Standard Definition video to RennTube, that's fine with me. The HD video is over 800MB, so that would be over the size limit.
(but I'll include it with the DVD that is NOT for sale)

Hoping for http://www.doncarter.us/Videos/OCIC%20HD.wmv to show up soon... (I guess you're saying that you can't do this due to size limits where you're currently hosting this?)

SD just doesn't cut it...

Thanks for putting this together, Don.

....uploading now

I am, however, working on hosting HD video at RennTube. Not sure when it will be ready though.

I have some web server space, but it's a low end service (cheap) and I think I only have about 1GB of space and a certain amount of bandwidth (download limits) before additional charges kick in. I'm pretty sure if I load the 800GB file to my web server and post the link, I'll exceed the limits of my account if just a few people down load it. Most of the free HD video hosting sites have limits it seems. Guess I could split it into two parts and use YouTube....I'll keep thinking about it and if anyone has a solution, let me know.

Nicole,

YouTube recompresses the video and the quality usually drops. Are you having trouble viewing/downloading it? If you right click on the link, you can choose "Save Target As" and download the whole video. I do have a YouTube account, so I can try to upload it if needed.
