Little free advice ... mechanicals first! mechanicals second! mechanicals third!
This would include fixing the butcher holes where there was an s4 wing attached, and body structure ... NO PAINT!
Just remember this is free advice and worth everything you paid to get it.

I assumed you had a passion and commitment.
Sorry, guess you don't.
Same as my Wrangler and most iof my other cars. Parts are worth a little more than the whole.

Well, the wing alone is up near $1000, that hatch much more, the paint that makes the look around $10K, wheels and tires about $3+, an interior for a street car needs to be presentable and you know how much seats and carpet are for these.
Now, back to Andre's point, mechanicals that work and don't leak will be $3000 for parts only ( your labor, ask me how I know ), its fun to dream, but lets face it, thats all this is about.

J-mond body kits are pretty much clones of the stroseks. Figure $7-8K landed in the USA. Then $5-10K for instal and paint. Figure $2000 for misc mechanicals, brakes, TB etc..
You can have a great looking OB for under $20K, but then again you can start with an S4 for less and be happier with the performance.
I say get it, do the work yourself and learn as much as you can. If you "F" it up, no big loss, then you part it. If you don't, keep it cheap and flip it when you are no longer a padawan in the ways of the shark. Then get a better one worth customizing. S4 or a Euro S.
THat car there, with a lot of work and a lot of money could be worth $4-5000 tops. Look at closed ebay auctions for US 928's from 78-84 for true values. Many were in better shape than that one. Many are selling on ebay for $1500 that are turn key with better paint and body.

That car there- I believe that is/was Tilo's in Germany. Supercharged (one of the first, IIRC), and good luck finding those wheels.
I think someone bought it and brought it stateside, but I lost track of the lore.

dont want those wheels, i just like that 2nd to last version bumper (more than the last version bumper) and i like the wing and hatch, not sure if i like that you can't put stuff in the car though because the hatch cuts off the space...

But by the time you are done, plan on spending at least 20-30K. The $$ adds up really fast. and an 81 just isnt worth it, that way
A 928 is a "love for the car project". If you don't love the car. stay away, very far away.
At this time looking over your questions. I am not trying to be rude... but seriously stick with your 944

IM sorry but you are just headed down the classic, Im going to buy this becasue its cheap and make is a diamond... I am sorry to report, NO YOU'RE NOT. You maybe able to get it running and fairly reliable for 3K on top of the purchase price.
