That 911 has $5K of body kit and another $5K of paint. That's why it's $12K
Although we all know the value of the 928, most of the world doesn't. The engine is in the wrong end and maintenance is costly. Sorry but a well sorted 911 of any 70's or 80's year will fetch $10K+, about 3 times what an OB 928 will get. Even though the 928 cost more when new.
There is a white 85 with rare red "Can can" interior is much, MUCH nicer shape that has failed to sell here or on ebay for $3500. I could list my shark for $40K on ebay tomorrow, but it wouldn't add to the value of the rest of the sharks. It would just cost me listing fees for an auction with zero bids..
If you want that 928 as a fun project, then go for it. If you want it as a quick flip, you'll loose money no matter what customizing you do.
If you want realistic prices, search CLOSED-COMPLETED ebay auctions, not live ones. Show me a completed auction for an old body style 928 in the same shape as your prospect that sold for over $3K in the last 6 months...

Number of 928s you've worked on or restored: 0
Number of 928s I've worked on or restored: +15
Until you've completed - no check that, until you've started working on a 928 it's all just speculation on your part. Your paint and body work numbers are not grounded in reality. The materials alone to do a decent paint job are > $800.
buh-bye!

A "Buy it now" price on a car means nothing until someone buys it. duh! If that was all it took to show value I'd put a "Buy it now" price of 1 million on my car and set it on fire. Duh!

It's obvious that you don't like the look of the older 928 much. My advice to you is to get a cheap S4 ('87 and up) and go from there. I've seen many older 928's converted to the new body style, but every single one of them just didn't look right. You could get an ok S4 for just under $10k before the economy got flushed down the toilet. Now you could probably get one for less than that. And if it's black, it will look just like the one in my avatar . A nice bonus is that it comes with ~80hp more than a 16-valve US 928.

I will not convert but I have been told that my 81 with painted wing has one of the best profiles for an OB. If you look closely, you can see the big reds behind the D90's.
I do have a set of aero mirrors to go on later, and that is the last of the conversion except for 8" H4's.
