there are 3 nice 1980, 928 cars on ebay for over $10,000
so think that if this car had the following done to it it could sell for $5000 easy:
(i know this is pure theory but i'm doing the math here)
1) new paint job (can do this myself for $500 in supplies for top quality paint - cost $400 for my 944 although the painter did a worse job at prep and spray than i would have done myself since i bartered for the paint and body job on my 944)
2) new carpet (or just cleaned) (can do this for $500)
3) new interior (or just replace what is really bad) (thinking i can do this for $800)
4) new wheels ($600) (i already have some 18" turbo twists even)
then i'm looking at
$2400 for fix it parts and $500 for the car
$2900 for a 1981 928 with new paint, clean interior, nice 18" wheels (stage 1)
###########################
then if i want to go futher
updated rear bumper with lights $700
update front bumper with lights $500
new shocks and springs $1000
new brakes $1000
new trans $2500 (or can i get a cheaper 5spd? does this car accept a 5spd?)
$8600 at this stage (stage 2)
###########################
then add in the fancy hatch and wing for $2400
add in a self made supercharger for $3000
some more little stuff $1500
now i'm at $17900 for stage 3
###########################
which is more than i want to spend, so i think that somewhere between stage 1 and 2 is where i would feel ok spending. then, according to ebay prices i'd have a $10000 to $12000 928 porsche.

I'm starting to think your on crack. You remind me of sidehatch. What the hell does a 81 911 have to do with this conversation? I'm done watching this post

And the 911 has what relevance to this thread, whatsoever?
If its to justify your speculative value equation on the 928, its wrong.
It would take $30,000 cold hard cash to make an 81 shark worth $12K.
I appreciate your dreams, and wish you well, but your starting to waste your time on this tangent.
My guess is your 16 years old and should be doing your algebra 1 homework and your mom doesn't know you are on the internet.

the 911 is a reference to the value of a wrecked and salvaged title and restored same year porsche
i know its not a 928, but a restored and customized 1981 928 should have more value than a restored and customized salvage title 1981 911
where do you guys come up with needing $30,000 to wash carpet and paint the car?

What they are trying to say is that there is absolutely no connection between the price of a used 911 and the price of a used 928. They are completely different cars and have very different market prices. The only connection they share is that they are both Porsches, and it ends there. Looking at the value of a 911 and trying to infer any kind of 928 price from it is a bad idea, even if one is restored and the other is salvage titled.

I have fairly frequent correspondence with DanglerB via Pelican. Good guy. I think he met some of the Rlisters at the 928 Intl get together.
