Very nice find. What are your plans for the car? Are you going to drive it or preserve it?

I have NEVER in my life seen an MPG gauge on a tachometer in a 928.

Is that standard in 1982?

Yes, as was the 85 mph speedo... Most folks changed those out.

Chuck, I wish I could afford Kermit man, I'd buy that car from you in a heart beat. If you ever come across one that is nice (not like yours nice, but a nice driver) in the same exterior color w/ an automatic let me know...make sure it is a '78 like yours...same personal reasons as you had on that one...book ends.

Hey, you need to sell that to Bob! He has so many cars he can't drive them all anyway and he already has the nicest S4 (well, GT I guess actually) extant so he NEEDS Kermit to keep that one happy...the GT is GREEN TOO! It is a match made in heaven!

Please tell Bob "hi" for me and I hope to see him again soon and would LOVE a tour of his "garage"!

Good luck at Parade Chuck! Knock them out bro'!

Grasshopper , there are many things you have not seen , more that you have not understood or even known to look for !! the MPG meter goes well with the 85 MPH speedo and upshift lights on 5 speed cars The FIRST oil crisis brought out all kinds of interesting behavior...rationing , alternate days to buy ,long lines , at least this time around price is the only thing being used to modify consumption.

Hey Kie, .....was almost gonna stop by and say hi...(I was up in Kirkland getting an alignment on my track car)..but the MAF blew out..so I had to nurse it home...what is it with me and MAF's...this is like my third one..damn.... but yes..my 82 track car has the MPG gauge in the tach..as do some of the Euro models. Also CASIS was on the 83 and 84 928's (Computer aided shift indicator system????)..determines optimum shift points...for both economy and spirited driving (I assume it was manifold vacuum based?)...

Either way....cool find..and love that color..yet another unique one..

After Leif is done making the car 100% mechanically, she is getting a full (non-invasive) detail. I will drive it around just enough to ensure the thing works and drives as it should.

Truthfully, this one will be too nice to be part of my permanent collection

My guess is someone here will be taking this car to his/her local concours sometime in the not-so-distant future.

Sounds like a museum piece will be up for sale soon.

If I wasn't on the other side of the country I'd love to do the full detail on that car.

Sounds crazy but the best way to learn what these cars should look like is to detail one with hardly any miles.

THE BEAST LIVES!!!!

Leif just called me. Get this... when he broke the banjos free on the original fuel filter there was fuel pressure! This car had not run in 20 years!

After a few cranks for fuel pressure, she lit on 4, then quickly 6 and then 8 almost immediately.

NO LIFTER NOISE!

How can that be? My '91 'S4 with 90k had lifter noise for like a minute after sitting for just 15 months or so.

COLD AC!!!

He is doing the belts, water pump (slight weep although I was having him change it anyway) front engine seals, etc., tomorrow and Monday. Already flushed the brakes, rear end, tranny and all the other fluids. New hood/hatch support struts, a new eng temp gauge sender, a new rear hatch seal and we are in business. Oh a couple rear lug nuts were stubborn and had to be persuaded into not holding on the wheels. He said the OE 1982 spark plugs were fine. Who else can say they still have those in their car?

He also told me the 'cat is catalyzing. How one verifies that I'm not sure but he said it was doing it's thing. The Ungo box even seems to work.

Leif at Autowerks Northwest is the man (or at least one of them) for 928 related affairs in the Pacific Northwest. This was nearly a total surprise for him and he got right on it! He said this car was so special it could not just sit there and get pushed in and out of the shop every night. He says by Tuesday the 1st I'm driving her outta there.

When I had heard of the car a month ago, I casually asked him if he was up for the job. He said sure, why not? Fast forward to yesterday the 25th and I call him out of the blue at 2pm. Told him I just bought the car like right then and there. He said bring it over. Now she lives one day later after 20 years of hibernation. Thanks Leif!
