You guys are amazing! Im still flabbergasted! (is that a word?)
anyway, It sure would have been nice to have an engine to beat the huge money effort, vipers and evo this weekend. the vipers were about 475rwhp but driven by folks that didnt know the track very well. however, the Evo has more laps there now than most, and is only running 1:35s. Im sure if I could keep up within 4 seconds a while ago with anderson with 200morehp, i think ill be able to stay within a couple of seconds with only being down 50hp and missing some of the go fast stuff like bigger tires up front and Motons.
Now, the project starts. One more race at laguna later this month and its time for retirement of the Holbert engine when we nail down the details.
this is a big job, to swap out an engine, but doable. I think it is best to investigae having the engine bored to the proven 968 piston size and find some pistons that will either fit the Cheby rods or custom rods that have been used by anderson,(greg brown) fan (devek) or marc (devek).
Nicasil??? Alumisil?? we want this bottomend to be at least as dependable as the Holbert machine.
since we are going all this way, i think we need to do this. it would be a shame to put the 9.0 compression , 6 liter together and only end up with 50 more hp or something. I got 50 more hp with going with a 5 liter vs the 4.7, but an increase of compression from 9:1 to 10:1. I would think keeping it at near 10.5:1 could be good so we could use pump gas and not worry. and, boring the block with larger diameter pistons is a hassle, as leaving the block factory stock is always a good thing, but if we can do it now and get the extra 500ccs, why not. that alone is worth an extra 25-50hp i would imagine. since the stock injectors and ecu can probalby support 400rwhp, it would be a drop in replacement for the Holbert car.
400rwhp + that would shock a few of the vipers and certainly the Evo boys when i chase em down next season! maybe its worth pushing out that front fender a little too and start to run the 305s up front!!!!
thanks for all the support everyone. again, I dont know what to say, but Thanks, and Ill keep the 928 flame alive and burning HOT!

The Moldex crank has "better" oil passageways than the stock 928 crank. So any advantages from drilling out a stock crank already apply to this setup. Personally I would dry sump any race car of this caliber (hell, I want to dry sump my DE car).
Tim, Todd, Sway and I have been discussing putting together a dry sump system. If this happens (and I'm sure it will) it will be developed in such a way other 928'ers will be able to simply purchase the "kit" to dry sump their car. Or at least the custom parts do build a DOY system. We have four 928's up here where dry sumping would be ideal, so keeping costs down by volume should help out the development costs. So, assuming this grows wings before the next racing season, Mark might be able to take advantage of this.
This isn’t the type of deal where once the motor ships, Mark is on his own. Weather he likes it or not, he is now a fully fledged member of the Wisconsin 928 wrecking crew. We know how to take care of our own.

That sounds like a very generous offer! Thanks!
Scot and i got his out of his car in 3 hours and on a stand, however, i think mine is a little more tricky, maybe not. getting it in takes a little more finesse, and a good enigine lift with the right chains.

Maybe the pistons coming with this motor could be of use to him?

Are the rods in this motor the same lenght that would be used with the 968 pistons?
When you say "chevy" rods, thats refering to the chevy length right? I just heard this.
what is the stroke going to be? same as most all other 6.5 liter engines?

The 928 engine lift, bottom support jack stand, and engine stand mount.
Will any of these help?
