Mark: You deserve it - your enthusiasm and energy are phenomenal, now we help a bit with the equipment...

I don't think I'll win the steering wheel recover, though - becaues usually I only win oil filters...

You can have my 42 tickets, cause I am not ready for interior updates yet.
Andrew, can I give Nicole my 42 chances?

I was just kidding, Andre! I just haven't bought any oil filters in years, because I keep winning them in raffles. Doesn't mean I never win anything else...

I totally appreciate your generosity. But I feel you should keep your chances, and the possible win for when you're ready.

When I asked Mark about signning the car, it was intended for everyone who donated regardless of the amount. This is a joint effort, and I hope Mark will comment on this point. IMHO, your contribution is equal to mine and anyone elses.

Comments Mark?

Maybe some bits of thin acrylic sheet could be sent out for remote signatures, then fastened to the car? It would get a bit expensive shipping the hood or even the wing around...

When Mark makes it back to Wisconsin, we are going to use up a lot of ink

Just another idea - we have a lot of very talented graphic artists around Rennlist (I just play on one TV) - Someone should make a very nice collage featuring pictures of Al Holbert & the salt flat run & other historic artifacts of Al Holbert's life - put it somewhere on the car. Tie every thing together.

If someone wants to grab this idea and run with it - I have a picture of this car in IMSA safety car trim that could be added to the mural.

I spent the past 4 hours sucking down the suds with Tim Murphy and the owner of Thaddeus’s former 928 (going to Tim’s tomorrow for a supercharger fitting, this is an 86). We couldn’t stop talking about how awesome this community is. John D even mention over and over during our phone conversation how incredible we all came together for such an excellent cause. Add to that the breast cancer fund drive Food Angel is running in the OT forum – this is really more than just an online forum. This is family.

I also heard a rumor (from Tim Murphy after talking to Mark) the Kibort / Holbert car was put 3rd on the grid today – ahead of some very fast machinery. Next year with the new mill will blow their socks off!!!

that's why i said "signature" cause even if i signed it for real you wouldnt knnow who it was. I was thinking more of a written interpretation of my first name..

Absolutely!

Hey, this will give me another good excuse to come out to Road America again!

Im sure we can find away to get all the sigs on the car. its a big canvas and there are some great artistic minds here.

I just wish i had the motor today. Its AM, ready to get out back out to the track. we are gridded actually 4th, with 2 vipers and the 550hp evo ahead, a viper behind with a world challenge touring honda (wtf, he had the exact same qual time as me, but then why wouldnt he, its Speed World challenge!) then some S2000s camaros, vets and a 50 other cars with the SpeedWorld Challlenge viper in the rear due to sound in qualifying. be nice to romp on the vipers , but just down about 50-75hp or so. You should see these guys and their pit efforts. Not only did Scot and i drive to the track as always, we just have a pile

But , what i will say, is that the car is an open canvas for Rennlist. Of course we will have the Rennlist and the members on the car in the most promoting way!

Now, its probably time to start finding some more publicity for the car. I dont know how Sportscar revolution is doing, but maybe they can do another piece on the car. Ill start making some noise with the magazines too. Its been such an amazing car so far, and its really going to be a force with the new engine.

Now, we have to get this motor in the car over the winter! We should also discuss options to take advantage of flat top pistons vs the lower compression pistons in the engine now, and possibly boring the block and using 968 pistons and making it a full 6.5 liter. depending on the costs, it may be worth doing while its in this stripped down shape.

Again, i cant tell you how much i appreciate the support. I think the car is very special and certainly will be even more impressive and competitive with 75-100 more hp!!

Thanks everyone!

Mark
Mark,
If you're going to bore it out then you may want to do that at US Chrome before it gets shipped to you. Maybe you can work out a deal with the good folks in WI, sending them the pistons etc. to keep shipping costs down. You also may want to talk to Mark A. about his dry sump setup as this engine probably won't be as immune to 2/6 failure as the Holbert engine has been.
Congratulations,

Congratulations,
Not bad ideas (Tim and Mark have already discussed the chrome option) - one issue, the engine is 100% assembled. Not a big deal to tear apart, just making sure everyone realizes this.

The Moldex crank has "better" oil passageways than the stock 928 crank. So any advantages from drilling out a stock crank already apply to this setup. Personally I would dry sump any race car of this caliber (hell, I want to dry sump my DE car).

Tim, Todd, Sway and I have been discussing putting together a dry sump system. If this happens (and I'm sure it will) it will be developed in such a way other 928'ers will be able to simply purchase the "kit" to dry sump their car. Or at least the custom parts do build a DOY system. We have four 928's up here where dry sumping would be ideal, so keeping costs down by volume should help out the development costs. So, assuming this grows wings before the next racing season, Mark might be able to take advantage of this.

This isn’t the type of deal where once the motor ships, Mark is on his own. Weather he likes it or not, he is now a fully fledged member of the Wisconsin 928 wrecking crew. We know how to take care of our own.
