No, there isn't. It couldn't work with the shape of the right front wing.

Another detail on the numbering system Porsche uses is that production gearboxes start at #00501.

Anything with a serial number range of 00001 - 00500 is a prototype.

Example: From the 88 GTE Prototype we find:

You can clearly see on this one that this was G28 12 2J 10?85 and now it's G28 55 2J 10509, so the production gearbox number 9 (first is 501).
SAmuel,

The above post supports your theory...

And we can clearly see that this is the original stamp, not a modified one like the early production cars. Also, it is indicated as a G28/12, (regular Euro manual gearbox). Except that we know from the Z-orders of the car that the internal are identical to a G28/55.

Is everybody lost at this point of the explanations?

It's exciting when a new data point appears.

I haven't give up this project already and feel free to tell me if you would-like to add something.

I already know that I will add a chapter about Exclusive cars.

The goal is to cover all the 928's with a M28/41 SP or M28/47 engine and a G28/55 gearbox, production car or not.

Not sure to include the part about racing the other versions.

Samuel,

There are so many great cars of interest in the 928 lineage.

I think you are smart to limit this book to the specifics and development of the "Modern" S4 generation SE-CS-GTE-GT-GTS cars and prototypes. What a great niche reference it would be!

I'd buy 10 copies for my mother - and recommend it to the "Rolling Stone"... I'm certain that 000, Excellence and Panorama would cover its publication and I can help with physical publication as I've written a bestseller in English and Japanese already and edited quite a few books for other authors on many subjects.

Epic research you have done already!

Let's bring this one to fruition!

Correct, no bleed out... Not sure where I found that shot... In the AI - Digital enhancement world of photography, sources/photos/saturation can be deceiving. Sure is pretty!

Sure wish...

This is the only red 1989, displayed at a Brussels museum for the 70th anniversary of Porsche.
It's the only CS with a rear wiper.

Here is an SE for sale, and an early one:
https://cars.bonhams.com/auction/293...1-81j01056-sp/

The roof antenna is not original, but it's the VIN stamp which is the most problematic...

There is no correlation between the engine and VIN numbers.
In this case, the indicated engine number is the correct one for this VIN, BUT we haven't seen a picture of the actual stamp, nor the gearbox number stamp.

Anticipated price is super low at 30-50k Pounds. Eventually, every person reading these posts will be kicking themselves for not buying this car.
