Samuel,
I am not surprised that the reserve was not met at 270,000 Euros that was a pretty special car...
As regards the completion of your CS restoration, what's another year? Keep up the excellent and inspiring work!
Regards,
Dave

A friend was there and saw the car in the flesh. He said that the presentation was sub par... Shame...

This car can't do something better than a GT, maybe rare but why pay so much money for it.
@Samuel,
Jochen had recently a disc prolapse, 928 shop worktime will be an rare animal here in Germany.

My mechanic is always late but he works well and he is already impressed by the work done to the body so he will try to his best, I'm sure.
And to be perfectly honest I would'nt have restored my car this way if it was a "regular" GT.
I have driven many GT's and they don't behave the same way as my former 1989 CS. Less weight, less sound insulation and no cat change the perception. I just loved that car.
My 1988 will be a different animal beeing another bit lighter than the 1989 (no regular seats, no door locking, lighter wiring, no alarm), but also with a cat. I really want this car to drive perfectly!.

Sorry to hear about Jochen's back issue. He is a valuable asset to the 928 community and since it is a global family, we send him our best wishes for a quick and complete recovery! Please give him my best when you see or speak with him.
As regards the differences between the rare cars and why they are more valuable. Rare special models have always commanded large premiums in the collector world, it is true from Bugattis to Ferraris and Porsches.
In the 928 world, the early cars, pasha cars, ultra low mile time capsule, prototypes or the GTS cars, any 5 speed, and the Club Sports, SE's and the one-off GTE and GT XX8's are premium cars to varying degrees. The ultra rarities are what the moneyed collectors chase.
As regards the performance of a Club Sport vs a GT? I observe via the (relatively unreliable) seat of the pants experience the SP serial number engine in the GTE is crisper on throttle and that car feels slightly stronger than my GT's. Porsches skunkworks is pretty well known for being able to tweak items they lavish their attention to. Perhaps Roger or Samuel will add their observations here?
Intrinsic valus vs extrinsic. To be truthful, a regularly driven and maintained car is often more fun to drive than a garage queen collectable that comes with attendant limits to use and attention to preservation. I salute your recent purchase as a perfect example...

Dave

thank you for this. This is really great info. I’ll send some photos once I’ve got some good ones.
I have the engine number if you want it?
And will get a photo of the gearbox number in due course.
As I said on the other thread. Car is in great condition. Original paint with a couple of areas that need attention - worst being a 2 inch (ish) patch of crazing under the s4sport decal on the rear bumper. I am really keen not to respray the car, so would appreciate advice as to what to do - maybe use one of those paint scanners to match up a custom colour? (as after 35 years GP white in a can will be way off) and try and match it in?
the other worst thing is the previous owner in a fit of nineties bad taste and poor judgment, had the rear wing sprayed white. I’m determined to try and save it. Plan is to have it shot blasted with a very delicate media (walnut shells?) and then try and replasticize (spelling?) the rubber. Would appreciate any thoughts about how to go about this.
I have a non-original (but matching) spoiler I have put on in the meantime. But I want this car to be as original as I can manage.

Anyway just to say I am also a relatively new owner of a very original white SE so would be good to compare notes at some point (I am in Cheshire). Tim

Dave - My SE is fast and pulls really hard. Different to drive than all my other 928's.
If you are at Rendezvous you can drive it 8>

You will be welcome to sample the GTE - If she is my date for the event... The GTE has the heart and suspension of the Club Sport along with the leather and lace of the GT. I think you will like it!
I may want to put some road miles on the GTS - after all - it has a Rogerbox!
