Default The 928 is a sissy car.

Thats right I said it.

My Girlfriend spent the better part of the day with her real Father, he has a bit of money and spent some of it on a Dodge Viper and a Chevy SSR (the ugly truck) the later should hint his taste in cars. At some point in their day together I came up in conversation as well as my car, she told me he called it a sissy car and then revved his engine. I have never met this man and I take this as an insult. This only feeds my urge to buy a supercharger.

Let it go. The Viper is a rattletrap ready to be wrapped around a telephone pole and there really is no point to the truck. Guy's got a small one. What can you do?

Dude ... the 928 is the 928. Are there people out there that don't appreciate sportscars and think trucks with lift kits are the only manly vehicles? YES. Does that bother you? NO. Is the 928 a sissy car? Never heard it called that but if he calls it that, then let him. You can say his cars are wonderful, but he is a d#ckhead.

"I can date his daughter. "

Ask him if he can spell Finesse.

Remind him of the days when Porsche had the reputation for being a giant killer, when a 4 cylinder 904 could destroy a small block Cobra in an endurance race, and, after all, isn't that what a GT car should be capable of doing........enduring?

Ask him if he would like to pit his Viper against a 917-30 roadster for a reasonable period of time.....say 24 hours? OK, say 48 hours? Whatever.

Ask him if he wants to risk a hillclimb against a tiny little sissy car like a 908 spyder anywhere in the world? A 908 that pulls a wheelie at 60 mph when its little sissy 3 liter engine is goosed? Don't think he'll accept that one.

Ask him why 911s run with restrictors in the air intakes in the ALMS series (or did)?? Why?

Ask him if he has ever sat through an ALMS race and watched a 3.2L GT1 destroy a 6.3L McClaren in no more than 3 hours?

Nothing against your girlfriend, but Porsche has nothing to prove to the world. The fact that he brought it up says something like insecu.....aw why finish it.

Sissy? Sheesh!!

Bring em on!!

The owner of the dyno shop that I use has a modified Viper GTS and he has made the comment many times "owning a dyno has its advantages, I definitely know not to f*** with a 928". Of course, just about every 928 he has seen has a supercharger and puts down over 400 - 500 rwhp.

Don't get me wrong, I like Vipers. For less than half the price you can have a 928 that will spank the viper in just about every aspect (accept the factory warranty).

The Viper is pretty badass -- raw and untamed. Unfortunately, they could use a bit of taming. All out, 10/10 on a track, he'd have an advantage on the straights but you could out-brake and out-corner him, assuming equal drivers and equal tires.

Tell him you need him to bring his truck over and help you haul a pallet of concrete, or anything else over 1000 pounds. When he wimps out, tell him he has a sissy truck.

You know, I thought of somemore stuff.

Ask him what he thinks of a certain female 928 pilot who holds some high speed records in her "sissy" 928 at over 200 sustained mph along with her husband. She isn't exactly what I would call a dyke. Everyone on this forum knows of whom I am speaking.

I know another former 914/6 pilot who drove one of the baddest 914s around and would blow his doors off every day of the week. She has since switched to sports racers because she and her husband thought the 914 was too slow.
Yeah, real sissy. Sure. Right.

I don't think I would mess with either of these females in their P cars. Not without more experience. And I would advise him to reconsider doing it if he met up with them.

What about all of the rallyes Porsche has won in Europe? Sissy car? I know of few if any better tests of a GT car than road rallyes over real roads. Yeah, lots of sissys there. Sure. Right.

The truth is he will stick to his preferences, and you will stick to yours, despite the records of both vehicles. But some guys just need to badmouth others' choices to feel secure. It sounds like your girlfriend prefers your ride over her father's. That's the issue that's bugging him. I would tred lightly with this issue. He is her first love.

If you're worried about what limpdick has to say about your 928, you are gonna have some serious self esteem problems if you trade it for a 914.

In anything other than a straight line, you'd wipe the floor with either of his cars. Plus you'd be more comfortable, could do it for longer, and with a lot more style.

Ha ha, remember he is her father! If she talk about you all the time, he of course gets jealous and wants her to see that her old father is tougher than this little punk she keeps nagging about...

Give him a chance, maybe he is a nice guy after all. At least he is interested in cars so you have something to talk about when you meet. But if he calls the 928 a sissy car in your face, then the gloves are off and it's supercharger-time for you my friend...

I have hear the 928 being called many things, but not a sissy car. It definitely is a Grand Tourer. It is a FAST FAST car when you want it to be (and trust me, my friends and i have taken it THAT fast). It has had a playboy mobile reputation, gold club set racer etc... but come on, like they said in R&T "you can drive it like a gentle man or flog it like a wild man" and the 928 will be gracious to let you do both ANYTIME. You cannot do that in the Viper or SSR whatever. Actually you know what, you cannot even drive those cars on a daily or extended his speed trips (or slow ones for that matter). Also for what it's worth, fiberglass is not my thing. If you want fiberglass in a sports car, maybe you're better off keeping you Chevy Caprice . The 928 is an awesome car then and now and always in my eyes. You just have to appreciate it for what it is - and is not. For retards, i cannot offer any help.

Sincerely,

I have an idea: get the old man to drive your shark. Make sure it includes lots of mountain roads and open air straights. Watch how he "adopts" you and your shark. A sly grin will come over his face after the first hour. It is all over past that point. Another couple of hours at speed, and you'll be coming to dinner regularly.

I once thought 928s were a bit odd, having started with 356s and I thought a front engined V-8 couldn't possibly have represented any fidelity to the Porsche concept. A good friend challenged me to drive one., and I discovered I couldn't have been farther from the truth. Now look at me. Try to pry it from my hands.

If daddykins doesn't take you up on your offer, give him time. His daughter will work on him. He can't lie to her. He'll cave sooner or later. And then you've got him.

It got me, that's for sure.

Ask daddykins for the loan of his phallic symbol truck to get a few odd jobs done .. suggestion: My SO dissapears with 'my' F150 routinely to haul manure from and shavings to the horse barn.
That ought to take the sissy aroma off that shiny truck ..

It could be worse.... he could be one that doesn't understand cars at all, especially your love for them, regardless of it being a Porsche 928 or not. He could be one that wonders the sense in a teenager wanting such a vehicle(how can I call a 928 a "vehicle".. please forgive me all).... And... he could be worried about his daughter riding around with a 16 year old male who's behind the wheel of a supercar that in the hands of many could be very quickly very deadly.

I'd definately say that if you wish to continue dating his daughter without flak from him, DO NOT challenge him in a race of any kind, verbal or otherwise. That doesn't instill confidence in him of the male he has to intrust with his daughter. I say let it go as best you can....he's just jealous that his little girl is now interested in some male other than daddy & in his own way he's just trying to get her to notice that dad is cooler somehow still. If you & her last any length of time & you show respect to him & his daughter, you will have your chances to win him over towards your 928. Most who havent driven one or know little about them haven't learned yet how incredible they are. In all reality, you might be better off if he does think of it as puny.

Myself.....well... as for my 16 year old daughter, I'm not so sure I'd want her dating a guy driving any supercar at this age. The guy she eventually marries...well yeah.. that'd be great if he is a car guy, of any kind, especially a Porsche 928! But not at 16. Heck, my wife & I are happy that her boyfriend doesnt even have his permanent license yet. Not that you cant have a poor driver of any age wrap a Caprice around a telephone pole, or a talented teenage driver drive safe with a supercar. But lets look at averages.... most 16 year old males do not need to be driving around hoping to impress their female counterparts in a supercar. Least, not from the standpoint of most parents of those 16 yr old females! If he is your "competition" for her affections, to know your adversary & their standpoint goes a long way to be the one who wins out in the end... and that has nothing to do with who's car is a sissy car or who'd win in a race. And in the meantime, as you said..... You ARE dating his daugher!
