What other configurations besides air filters are you comparing?

Just checking the general health of the engine and air fuel ratios because of the weird readings i was getting during the last race. found the issue being a bad power source.

after 2 runs, ill quickly put in the KN air filter and do another run.

what do you think it will do??

By the way, this engine has 100hours of racing on it, plus about 20K miles of street driving on it. It started out at 375rwhp and coincidentally enough, i FOUND the old dyno that did the original test at a different shop in san jose (near club auto sport). havent seen the owner since i did the original stroker dyno in his shop in 2009.

predictions????

Hi Mark, just for the heck of it, make two runs with no air filter at all!

do one without the "snorkel hoses" to the rad frame...just open-ended air filter box.

Or better yet, duct tape a leaf blower to the MAF, gas powered one. The electric are too wimpy.

I reckon it will make squat difference.

What I noticed when running the K&N some years ago was that the filter showed a darkening of collected detrius exactly the same diameter as the MAF aperture suggesting that most of the air was flowing through a section of the filter no bigger than the MAF or put another way.the plenum is not big enough to do what it is supposed to do- i.e. distribute the air flow evenly across the filter. This is also why I believe that the EIS system that Roger markets does actually work, nothing major gain wise but something that could be measured . Now if some kind soul could lend you one of these pieces of kit and measure that - that would be an interesting undertaking.

Rgds

Default 928 Dyno results 2017

Well, this car and engine never ceases to amaze me . with over 100 racing hours and 20,000 street miles, and a ceremonial dyo at the same dyno it was orginailly tuned at. (fuel regulator)
it ran almost the exact same power .. 377 at the rear wheels.

fuel looks great. could be a tad leaner, but its in the safe zone for those hot days where more fuel is a little safer.

i did 2 runs and then stuck the Stock porsche air filter on it. ............. Fred was right.............no difference. i seemed to remember a dyno day were i made the test and lost 5 hp, but not the case today. AND, i removed all the sand and rocks and race rubber bits out of my KN and put it back on and did one run just for fun..........it still didnt change much (and it was full of dirt and sand and rubber)
As i mentioned in a lot of other threads, one of the main reason for most finding the same HP levels, is that the air box is very leaky. meaning , when you put more restrictive filters on, the air just comes in from the sides. in this case, it looked pretty well sealed. one side didnt fit perfect, but for all practical purposes.....no difference.

No changes at all in 8 years. just a few spark plug changes!
am i the only one that is amazed on how durable the 928 platform is? before this, it was 8 years on the Holbert motor, and after taking it apart, it looked like brand new in side.

look at how nice and broad that HP curve is. anyone still think you want a flat torque curve?? (aka peaky HP curve)

Mark,

As I have said to you many times before despite your detractors- you must be doing something right! ''
I would be a very happy teddy if my 928 were capable of that output performance- you should be very pleased.

Thanks Fred!

if you haven't noticed, im ecstatic! yes, there are a lot of folks that criticize what i do, and how i do it, but at the track are are not many. They see me show up for a weekend , run toward the front and rarely break out a wrench, year after year. how many engines , or cars, have all my competitors gone through???? A LOT!!

Sounds about right.

I built a very similar engine to what you have about 10 years ago.

It was connected to an automatic and made 360hp at the rear wheels.
