This usually comes up at car meets I go to. Either cars are made to look good and not perform, or to perform and not worried about looks (could look good or bad)

Not sure if you guys are understanding what it means.
An example:
If you buy coilovers.. did you buy them for form (lowering just for looks) or function (better handling)
If you buy wheels.. are they for looks or did you buy them because you needed more rubber.

Definitely a form guy. I wouldn't have a 30 year old affordable-in-its-day car if I wasn't. :P That said, I certainly like to have my share of functional upgrades so long as they don't negatively impact form at all.

Function over form. My car is a complete sleeper, debadged, chipped paint, and stock wheels. Most people who see it don't even realize what it is or even that its a porsche, and thats fine with me because I'm looking at them from my rearview. I won't even begin to think about addressing its appearance till I finish the mechanical build, and new wheels will be low key and simply to get more rubber on the car.

Some good design form (without function) is essential on bodywork and interior otherwise all cars would look the same. Pure function for engine, drivetrain and suspension, mix of both for wheels, spoilers, wings, etc.
Good:
944T Function - 3in cat back pipe to stainless free flow muffler...add some form to it, slash cut and polish the stainless tip.
Bad:
Honda Civic with 1.5in pipe leading to boom box muffler and 4in chrome tips.

I guess if I have to pick it goes Form first followed by whatever function I can get out of it. Hence why I choose the style of the 944 over a honda crx. I like body lines of the 944 but I love aerodynamics. For everything you can see I pick form, For everything that is hidden that includes the engine because the hood is closed when driving I pick function. When it comes to suspension I pick function first (street Driven) followed with form to make it look as best as possible. When it comes to wheels I stick with what it came with and just paint them.

Definitely a function guy. Once Apon a time I tried the form route in addition to function. Realized it wasn't as much fun. Sometimes I envy the form crowd, but then I go burn rubber and feel just fine with my hoopty
