Default To those who have done V8 Swaps

Hey guys I wanted to ask the general 948 population a question. Is it worth it? I have been going back and forth trying to figure out should I do a V8 swap or a hybrid motor like Sid did. I plan to keep this car for a long while as long as it doesn't get totaled beyond repair. If I do a V8 swap I will be doing a 350, 383, or LT1 engine. I am aware of the other motors, its just the direction I wish to head if I go v8. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I would keep it a turbo myself, but I'm a 2 stroke nut so these turbo cars remind me of a 2 stroke powerband. It goes from nothing to oh shiz hold on.

For me it was worth it. If you are a purist it would be understandable not to put in anything other than a Porsche motor. If you are a gear head, why wouldn't you put a V8 in there? I enjoyed building mine and now driving it.

I have heard a few v8 converts say it was more than it was worth and they wouldn't do it again. They said once it was done it was very enjoyable though. I plan to do carb with 350, 383, or LT1 motor for several reasons.

I've been tempted to keep the 4 cylinder ever since Sid made his motor and have been playing it back and fourth. So far the v8 seems to be the route I may take, I just would like to go ahead and plan for which path I take.

I don't own one but have a friend who turned his track 951 into a Por-vette and I've driven it. My opinion for the little it's worth, street, no, turbo is plenty. For a dedicated track DE or NASA race car, absolutely!

948>951>944

I've owned them all. Over 35K reliable miles on my 948 so far....two hail storms under the belt too LOL.

if i were to do a v8 swap it would be an LS motor- not a heavy iron LT block. You can put a carb on an LS motor btw. I like the v8 swap in Alan's car, but i would be more tempted to swap a track car than a street car. My old turbo had just as much power as most swaps- 360+rwhp - and was dead reliable and i tracked it plenty. You will spend plenty of money on a good swap and more on good brakes. If you do it, do it right an dont end up hating it.
