here's 1 that never should have got a v8.

the LS7 was bad enough overkill, but the rest of this thing will take some work....

Hazards & Near-Misses

At the same time, we must be concerned about the hazards presented by vehicle fires, especially since the hazards get more and more exotic with each new model year.

Hazards involving struts (on bumpers, hoods, trunks and elsewhere) have been around for many years. In 1995, my department responded to a fire in a barn that was used to store several classic cars, and by the time we arrived, the 30 x 70 building was well involved. While the engine company was positioned at an adjoining pool to draft, the gas strut bumper on a 1987 Porsche 944, which was stored in the barn, exploded without warning. The strut rocketed through the weakened wall of the barn, traveled across the pool and struck a ground ladder on the side of the engine that was staged about 75 feet away. The rungs on the ladder were dented from the force of the impact. At least one firefighter had been standing in the immediate area of the impact site, but fortunately, he moved just before the strut exploded.

This was a near-miss incident that could have had much worse consequences. The bumper and ladder parts remain on display in our station as a reminder to our firefighters.

UPDATE:

I need to be leaving DFW Tejas area by no later than Saturday at 10~11 pm.... cuz I gotta be back in California by 7 am sharp Monday morning... I'm meeting with Eric to pick up my finished short-stroke/LS7 968, in the afternoon on Friday - and then bring it to the tuner (30 miles away) who's agreed to work into the wee hours to get the engine running proper (so I can drive her to California).

fingers crossed and pics coming soon.

stay thirsty.

The current to-do list before storage is as follows:

1. Clean as many grounds as possible
2. Replace thermofan switch
3. Swap early lower radiator/water pump hose for late version
4. DRIVE UNTIL IT SNOWS

I hope to finish the TT rebearing job this month, or at least in the next week. I have the heater hoses out (finally) so the new ones go in..Then the seat floor project has to be completed. this will require some welding to be done. Once the TT is finished, I can raise the rear suspension back in place. Then it can be moved on it's dollies so I can start getting the engine back into it. Looks like November is out and December is coming up soon. Time flies when you're having fun..

This year was a very busy year for me and my 944S. She got a complete suspension refurbishment/upgrade with stiffer springs and torsion bars, Koni Yellows, front coilovers and camber plates, and all new Elephant Racing (mostly) sport bushings. New 4-piston front calipers, rebuilt rear calipers, new pads, fluid, and discs, stainless brake lines, and rebuilt parking brakes. New wheel bearings all around, new CV axles and fresh CV bolts. All coolant hoses and fuel lines replaced. New water pump, timing and balance belts, rollers, tensioners, and front engine seals. Re-sealed the oil cooler and OPRV. New timing chain tensioner pads and valve cover gasket. New motor mounts. New vacuum lines and an S2 intake manifold. New clutch master, slave, and flex line. New wheels and tires. Removed carpet and sound deadening, freshly reupholstered early sport seats, new steering wheel and short-throw shifter. Manual steering swap, manual sunroof conversion. Deleted cruise control, hatch release motor, rear seat, and the stupid pad wear sensors.

Whew... Listing it all out like that really shows why I feel like I spent more time wrenching than driving this year!

Next year's projects include finishing the interior with lightweight carpet, reupholstered dash and door cards, Megasquirt conversion, some more weight reduction, and a header and new lightweight 2.5" exhaust. Maybe a transaxle swap too if mine finally gives up the ghost. Year after that is the big engine rebuild!

Nice list slomo))

it is cheaper to wrench than to go out 'testing'. I always answer 'no' when they ask, 'do you know how fast you where going?'
