Like Dan said, can we keep this thread more technical, please? There are already plenty of threads debating the lsx vs turbo engines. We'd like this one to show what is involved in doing the swap, not argue about whether or not its better than alternatives.
Here's a pic of Tom's car and engine bay. He is "the father of the 944 LSx" and absolutely an awesome person to work with.

Very nice. In the middle of my own swap, trying to do mine a little different than others, I modified the factory crossmember to drop the rack slightly, and allow install of the engine without shimming the crossmember OR modifing the hood. Basically fits in the origonal space... I may have to get a bump steer kit later to correct the dropped rack.
Good Luck,
Mark

what are you guys going to do about a radiator? planning on running the original turbo radiator and fans? Are you buying the adapter plate and going with a C5 bellhousing? or are you going to try to fab one up? have you talked with greg ^^^ and some of the other guys on 944hybrids.forumotion.com? They're very smart guys and will help a lot with the conversion if you have specific tech questions.
Good luck on the build, it's going to be an amazing machine when you're done with it! Just make sure you paint that engine bay!!! that's one thing i didn't do that i regret all the time.

From: one thousand, five hundred miles north of Ft. Lauderdale for the summer.
should i install the supercharger and enjoy the final 80 - 100 k miles, or just run the 968 n/a until it croaks before doing my LS2 conversion ? life's questions.

well as far as clearing the crossmember you should never shim it out from the frame. We just bought an aftermarket oil pan w/ better clearance and the LS motors dont have issues clearing the hood. Rack sits in the factory location.
We are using the factory radiator and fans- never heard of having any real issues with this beyond "theoretical". We have a factory bell housing w/ an adapter plate.

you're right, with the perfect oil pan you can put the engine in without touching the hood...because i built my pan and didn't have the time or skills to really make it fit tight i had to cut up a spare hood to make it work. Over the summer i'm planning on reworking my intake elbow and some other stuff so that maybe i can fit a stock hood over the engine...that's my hope at least.
there shouldn't be any problems with the stock turbo radiator and fans, especially if you remove the a/c condenser in front of it.
some day i'm going to do an ls1...maybe to replace the engine i have in the car now, i don't know...but i do know that i like the idea of the ls1 a little more than the lt1, even if i love the sound of the lt1
