ideally you use 2 people for the 944 hood, one just to hold it while the other swaps the shock.
OR, get some rags and bundle them up and jam them under the "corners" of the hood so it can't touch glass.

928 hood is what, half as wide? and you've got a cowl between hood and glass.

The first time I did the hood shocks on the 944, I thought it was a major PITA and it probably took me 30 mins. The second time, it was effortless and took less than 3 mins by myself for both sides, I don't think the car changed. I start by grabbing one of those cardboard shipping tubes and wedging it between latch post on hood and the latch assembly in the nose. Pop the old one out, attach one end of new one, then use one hand to lift the carboard tube, lifting the hood slight PAST where it normally stops, while the other hand is holding the loose end of the hood shock. When they align, just pop it on. Easy peasy. I think my previous error was trying to compress the shock to get it to align, don't do that.

I've since used the same technique on wife's M45, 968 front and rear, Cayenne front, rear and parking brake struts, etc. Effortless.

HTH.

cheers,
c

This is why you shouldn't top off your cooling system with tap water

This pump is from 3/2012 and never had any problem with cooling.

I've got the FrankenCIS 931 tuning now and it looks very promising..
Now, I'm not about to say it runs good yet, but it is on the right track..
It's nowhere near finished tuned yet, but this shows it working..

Tuning with the VE table is not easy. It is very touchy and I've just been trial and erroring it, experimenting to see what it will do.
It will definitely smother the engine if fuel no problem anywhere if you tell it to, which is pretty much the point of it..

Here is a bit about my wiring which is also not finished yet..
Under the hood I have it wired up to where it works and to where things go..
when I think it is pretty complete I'll make a nice fitting harness..

I still have to put an IAT in my intake somewhere and the idle control motor..
Cam caps are all tight, valves are all in spec, I tightened one valve 1 click..
Backed off the timing belt a bit too..

I washed and waxed the old girl. She isn't a concourse car by any stretch of the imagination, but I think she's wearing her age and mileage well.

I did find a small tear in the driver's seat which is annoying, but, still... that's the price of driving an old car.

Also, here's a gratuitous mileage photo because people think that old Porsches can't do it. I know that she is nowhere near what they can do but I'm posting it anyway.

She's a driver.

Thanks!

And yes, the Boxster wheels really do well on these cars. Mine came with them and that was a big selling point!

Congrats on the mileage milestone!

Installed a Lindsey Racing Max Performance chip yesterday, finally got a chance to go for a long drive today.

The car definintely revs a little quicker/ more eagerly, and seems to have a little more power in the mid range. There was a flat spot in the power delivery between 3k and 4kish that appears to be smoothed out as well. Not a “OMIGOD IT’S A ROCKETSHIP NOW” change, but a noticible improvement in the overall drivability.

I had also swapped out the throttle cam out for a linear version a few weeks ago, and those two mods definitely made the car more fun to drive.

Now I’m just waiting for the adapter for my new Momo Motecarlo steering wheel to arrive!
