Trying to solve my issue with the car dying for a second or two and then restarting while driving. Was able to replicate the issue in the garage by knocking on the DME. Didn't see any obviously bad solder joints, but I'm going to redo these ones.

Try also checking KLR. I recently had starting issues where the KLR and connector were oxidized causing an intermittent connection.

I resoldered the above and a few other joints today and it seems to have fixed the issue. I was tempted to pull the KLR 'while I was in there'.

As far as the stub axles, nope, they're fine. In fact it seems like the bearings were replaced at one point...wonder why there was so much radial play. Inner ball bearings were clearly aftermarket, as they had grease seals on them (like a normal sealed bearing) and spun like new. The axle nuts were tight, and the bearings seem to be in good health. Tomorrow I'll install the new parts and I guess we'll see what the difference is. Bearings, spacers, hardware, seals, etc.

Today I began a slippery slope. Bought a sandblaster, with the intention of cleaning up everything I reasonably can whenever it's removed on any of the cars. First attempt:
Really hindered by the lack of an enclosure, which I'll build tomorrow. The black slag media goes everywhere. I have at least a few dozen parts (heat shields, brackets, weird hardware, etc) lined up ready for blasting. Next step is a DIY zinc plating setup, which is very well documented online. Because I'm a sucker for the OEM-style yellow zinc finish, I'm getting that as the post-plating chromate agent.
If anyone wants some parts blasted and plated, I would be open to gauging interest and maybe offering it as a low cost service. After I make sure the plating setup yields good results.

I'll let you know, because I'm lined up to basically do 2 entire 944s and a Subaru at this rate. It's extremely satisfying to blast the rust and grime off of parts, it's like an airbrush that leaves a trail of fresh new metal behind it. The media isn't cheap but also not that expensive at construction supply stores.
