What did you do to your 924/944 today

Drove my car to town today to run some errands and had it run super hot/almost overheat. Driving fast on large roads brought the temp down to just above the first white line, but once I got to a light it climbed up to the second white line. I said screw errands and went straight home. By the time I got home the needle was between the upper white and red lines. For now I hoping that it's just a mismatched thermostat/fan switch, my failing coolant expansion tank cap, or air in the system (even though I bled it 3 times) since my fans and everything else operate as they should. Replacements are on the way so we'll see... Hopefully no damage was done
I also discovered and removed the POS alarm the PO hacked in. They put a screw through the firewall into the battery box to create a ground that was just itching to let in water With my luck the car won't start anymore after removing it...

New front shock inserts arrived yesturday! Thanks 944online! Now I get to pull the front suspension again. At least it was all apart a few weeks ago, so it should go smoother..as long as I don't find anything else "while I'm at it"

Just installed kyle's short shift linkage... this thing is amazing 30% reduction means you just flick your wrist to select a gear not your whole arm.
I drove the car on both normal and 30% reduction and its tightened up the gear stick in the cab so much shifting into a gear feel like new.
Did forget to put the rubber boot back on but it was all tatty anyway.
Old linkage.

forget what I posted last. been busy the past few weeks on the 87 944S. almost done.
after getting it running, drove for a couple weeks before I attacked the AC. PS rack started leaking. not surprising as I resurrected this after sitting a couple years.
so pull PS rack and replace a few seals and new banjo bolt washers. no leaks now.
had a couple of the AC hoses rebuilt, new drier, replaced the O rings. but apparently cracked the condenser fitting fighting to get the bad hose off. just flushed the system and installed a used condenser so ready to fill it on Monday.
after extensive troubleshooting, determined the in dash HVAC controller is not working to shut down the heat. so for now jumper'ed the re-circulation switch to the HCV solenoid and can turn the heat off and on, but not modulate. so I need to search and maybe post for alternative to pulling the dash to replace the HVAC controller.
hope to finally get to start work on the 86 951 soon.

Ok so it took me just over 2.5 hours to pull the front suspension so I could swap out the old shock inserts, and did i find a surprise. The inserts that I pulled out were Yellow Koni adjustables! Doh! I had no idea. I thought they were just going to be stock boge/sachs. I wonder if they can be rebuiltI? I also noticed that the control arms had delrin looking bushings. Pretty sure that wasn't stock. I'm going to have to look this car over a bit more closely and see what else might be modified.

Todays little project, before and after. Spare clock- check, spare speedo gauge face- check, fluro orange paint, matte black vinyl and a few hand tools, check! The mileage is 69119 miles or 112500km which is what was on the clock when I bought my 944 5 yrs ago. (my car is in km but this particular gauge face isnt)

That is awesome!
Today I installed my 75* C thermofan switch, wrestled the cooling fans back in, topped off/bled the coolant, adjusted my parking brake again, and bled my clutch for what I hope is the last time. Once the rain stops I'll see if my car still runs dangerously hot.

3rd times the charm.
got the AC finished in the 944S, blowing nice and cold.
so with that project finished, dragged the 951 into the bay and will now start on finishing the engine installation. also decided I will use this project as an opportunity to start powder coating.
this one will take a while, but looking forward to getting it running.
