Finally flushed and bled my brakes/clutch, installed the timing belt inspection hole plug, fixed my broken middle exhaust hanger, and bolted the triangle piece thing with new sealing washer to the pipe that goes to the muffler so the local shop can weld on the rest of my exhaust. If it's quiet enough with just the chambered muffler (which I doubt) I may risk it and drive to the shop. I don't want to pay for a tow, but I don't want to get pulled over for my car being too loud either. Maybe if I drive "gently" it won't be so loud...
Goals for tomorrow: install the Y pipe, plug in the oxygen sensor, adjust the parking brake, put the wheels on, find 12 volts, hook up the power wire for my MAF, and take it for its first journey around the block since October![burnout](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/burnout.gif)
I also discovered a rubber tube that starts just behind the front left wheel and runs along the bottom of the car, then stops about a foot before the end of the drivers side door. What is this for? Some kind of drain?

Why is at the front left at the car? The fuel system is only on the right side of the car as far as I know.
I'll do my best, but there's a merge onto a big road that's fun to go WOT on. I'll have to resist the urge...

Carbon cannister is behind the fender liner of the driver's side front wheel.

Today I took my car off the stands and attempted to start it with my NA-Tune installed. I wasn't too surprised when it started, idled like **** for 5 seconds, then stalled. I found the battery to be half dead, so I charged it and tried again. No dice. I'll install my AFM/stock chip tomorrow and if my car runs then my NA-Tune is complete garbage....

Installed a ureathaned (Kelly) trans mount, new fuel filter and new AA traction tires in the rear. Car feels more solid on the initial drive but now another heat shield is hitting something. Tomorrow. Right now I'm having a beer.
My car died in a busy intersection yesterday (Oracle and Orange Grove for those of you who know Tucson) after driving lots of in-town errands. My dad came and picked me up. I had just fixed a circuit board for his refrigerator and things were starting to thaw so we had to move quick. As we drove back to his house we talked about what might have been the cause.
He had broken down in Montana one time with a bad rotor, really a worn out distributor, in the yellow 74 911. I had also had a rotor explode a couple of years ago. That was a possibility but unlikely.
After we had the CCA back in the fridge and it was apparent it was doing what it should we drove back to my car. I pulled the distributor cap and all look right there so I tried starting it. Fired right up.
My father turned to me and asked "When did you last change the fuel filter?" Never. I tried when I first received the car but the new filter would not thread on to the line coming from the tank. I figured the new filter was wrong, the thread did not match and just put the old one back on. Today I went to install a new filter again and discovered the issue. The threads were bodged. The last person had ham handed the filter on and damaged the line. M16 1.5 die cleaned those up and the new filter went right on.
Old filter poured clear gas out the "out" side and black goo out the "in" side. Leave it to dad. I guess the early 911 guys are good at figuring things out too.

I replaced both ball joints on my 86 n/a today. Got the kit from Ian this week. It went smoothly for a first time job. Funny how the drivers side dust boot was intact, but the grease was dried out and the old plastic bushing was in pieces. But the passenger side dust boot was torn, yet the grease was still "wet" and fluid. The old plastic bushing was broken in a few places but not as bad as the other side. I expected to find alot of epoxy on both, but the drivers side had very little to remove and the passenger side had none.

Spent around $432 on paint today (with military discount) still trying to get my rear tires aligned correctly... toe and camber haven't been set 100% correct, local shop doesn't know what they're doing of course. Automotion valence came in the mail wrapped in a cardboard armor suit. Rebuilt caliper cores arrived as well... going tomorrow to hopefully get a decent passenger fender and side marker from Pick n Pull... stainless steel brake hose are almost here as well. Oh, and my turn signal column selector doesn't want to move all the way up anymore... so much fun to be had.
