Don't trust the original knock control system on these cars. You can drive around w/ the knock sensor unplugged and the KLR doesn't know it. The knock counters do not offer very useful data as it is hard to determine accuracy or validity of the pings/counts - I found it to be nearly worthless.

Hi, I'm relatively new to Rennlist but have really enjoyed this thread on the Cup cars. What an amazing source of info!
I'm building up a 91 S2 to M030+ spec. Not 100% original but with period correct detailing. I'm trying to get hold of some Escort Cup suspension with road valving and will be running 9/7.5 D90's which were the M030 option for the late S2's (when I find some ) ... what I was interested in was whether anyone knows the pearlized white the paint colour reference that was used on the Turbo Cup magnesium telephone wheels.

Canadian 1988 Turbo Cup
Hi
I am new to the forum and would appreciate input on a car that I may purchase. The seller claims this car is an 88 Canadian Turbo Cup imported to the US in 2001. It has no logbook and the prior owner, a resident of Ontario, cannot be found. On inspection it appears to be a Turbo cup down to the magnesium manifold / oil pan and Walker exhaust. What is confusing is the COA that the current owner provided mentions nothing about this car being a cup car (see attached). The VIN of reference is off the A-pillar, not off the firewall near the battery (always confusing IMO). Is this just a function of the COA being innaccurate or should this raise flags? By the way, is the manual boost **** in the photo original? I have not seen in it described or depicted on other forums.
BTW outstanding forum since 2005!
Thanks
John

By the VIN, that is one of the 38 Rothmans Turbo Cup cars. As mentioned earlier in this thread, those PCNA CoA's are known to have gross errors, so I would not hold that against the authenticity of the car.
The manual boost control **** is not original, the factory Cups ran the stock boost control system (cycling valve).

I'm back again I've told you before about an S2 that I'm building for fast road and will be running the Euro spec Bilstein suspension with the original Bilstein progressive springs front and rear. I am wanting to run the torsion bar in conjunction with the rear helper springs.
I am working with Bilstein Germany at the moment on trying to pin down the correct valving but in the meanwhile I'm interested to know how you find the 160 - 400 progressive front 200-300 (?) rear set up. I appreciate you will be running Koni's but are those spring rates ridiculously hard for road use?
Seems like there are a few out there with 400+ spring rates on the Bilstein Cup set up and others with the original progressive springs on Koni M030 set ups and they seem to be happy. Others say categorically 400+ is way to hard for road use.
So interested in how the original set up stacks up on the road.
Regards
Paul

Might try adding a post on the 951 forum, and just asking what's the stiffest setup people have successfully run on the street. Just a thought.

In other news, days before my 26 year anniversary with my car, I just found a vintage, used, original Turbo Cup seat (that needs a little cleaning up), so I can finally add a passenger race seat that is an accurate match to the driver seat.

Congrats! I considered it for my 86 Rothmans.

Yep ... I get it now. Strange how it was hosted on carupholsteries.com page.
That seat looks fantastic - what a find! Coincidentally I have also been buying old Recaros to match the Japanese heritage of my S2. I have just found a very shabby pair of early 1990's Japanese Domestic Market SPG Recaros which I'm told are very light and very nice but these ones are tired!! They come with glitter backs! Please don't laugh. http://nzhondas.com/bazaar/153121-re...ice-chair.html and http://page7.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/g123149950 - Just need to work out how to get the one from Japan to New Zealand
