As far as a registry, be sure to check out the Asarus site.
http://www.asarus.com/cup/recensement.shtml
Yes, Checked that and used the data already. Looks though like its not a realy active site anymore.

Contacted Friesinger as well : he has an '87 cage, no '86 and has an '87 seat, no '86

As for the suspension : I have (from Mr. Noack at Porsche !) a list with all the specific '86 cup parts. The 968 Koni M030 suspension is mentioned there (a note at the bottom of the page, writen by hand) as an alternative for the original Bilstein. Maybe in that regard it would be more correct to use the Konis on an '86 car instead of the '87 Bilsteins, as it seems they are not like the '86 version either.

Paul, I have a set of Recaro SPG seats, they are almost like your seat, except the shoulderpieces are not in leather. As with a lot of parts, the Original 1986 seat is also different from the later seats. I think I will use my SPG's untill I can find a more Original one (they seem to have been used in VW Golf rally cars as well, but without the Porsche crest of course).

Seems like that for the past few years. Sebastian (asarus) use to also post here on rennlist, but unfortunately has not in quite awhile.

If you are able to, please post the '86 Parts list. That would be interesting to compare to the 87+ lists that are available.

The 86 US Cup/Escort that sold at the Drendel/Gooding Auction a few years ago was a full restoration, and it had 968 M030 koni suspension on it, not the correct original parts. The front koni struts had been converted to double adjustable, but appears to have had M030 springs, and the rears were the standard 968 M030 single adjustable shock w/ the barrel spring. I have an old ANDIAL catalog that has a picture of the full 86 US Clubsport koni suspension. And I have seen one car in person that had this full setup on it. Its really rare, since the 87+ suspension and springs were quite a big upgrade, many of the 86 cars that were raced in 87 and beyond were upgraded to the newer suspension.

Also, depending on your intended use for the car once its restored, the M030 suspension is very streetable. The 87+ suspension is pretty stiff, and may not be to everyone's liking for use as a street car - but significantly better for track use.

Pics: 1) rear dbl adj koni for 86 US Clubsport, 2) rear bilstein on 86 Euro Cup, 3) 87+ Cup progressive springs & rear threaded body koni dlb adj (as used on 87 US Escort & 91 S2 Clubsport)

Hello Jim

Thnx for the info !

Since my car has been used as a street car, at least since 1989, I think it is one of the reasons why the Bilsteins are missing. In front it now has yelow Konis, I think 944 M030, for sure not 968 M030. See pics attached (brakes are rebuild by now)
The rear has the standard boge dampers.
I have an article in a German magazine, showing the front suspension of the cup car (white car at the right) : looks like a 2 stage linear spring : see also pic attached.

The most stupid thing about it all is that I had a cmpletely rebuild 968 M030 setup that I was planning to use on my 968 CS, but after sellingthe car, I also sold the suspension, not thinking I would ever need it again.....

I have the cup data as a pdf file, if you send me a pm with your e-mail I will send it to you (or others here who hould be interested).

The 8741 konis are the aftermarket sport yellow strut for the 944, basically equivalent to the M030 struts but w/ a fixed lower perch, not the ride height adjustable collar assembly. The 86 cup spring in the article is the same as what I have seen for the 86 US Escort cars, with the 3-4 dead/bound coils similar to a weltmeister spring.

Hi Paul - I'm about to get some Recaro SPG's recovered for my 'loose' S2 cup car project. Could you post up some close up pics to show position of Porsche crest and also let me know the dimensions. Would also be really interested in detail of the leather/suede shoulder inserts. Anyone know if these are real suede or are they more like Alcantara?

Thanks as always guys for keeping this great thread alive.

Thanks for those references - Not seen those Sloane Car pics before .. amazing! Did you notice that it had the stock rear seats in place with the Porsche script material. Did yours come originally with the rear seats in place? Any chance you could just give me the dimensions of the crest - height and width. Many thanks, Paul

I do have another question which is broadly on topic ... just ... Does anyone have an image showing the Porsche Motorsport logo of 88 - 91 era. I'm assuming it is different to what they are using today.

My car did have the rear seats, but no seatbelts or place to bolt them. I left the seat bottoms, but I unbolted and removed the seat back.

I'll measure the patch in the next week or so, car is in storage. I think the patch uses shiny metallic-like threads.

This car sold for $79K at the Drendel auction last year.

FYI, the '86 cars have many less mods.

Looks like this one may have been upgraded to 87-on suspension tho.....

How's this for a very rare and ridiculously high-priced piece of Turbo Cup memorabilia?
