If that's true that is disappointing. The PDLS+ LED look is deeply missed!
I actually prefer the look of the xenon PDLS lights with the black housing vs the PDLS+ LED lights (though I'd still option the PDLS+ lights over them if they were an option)
This new LED with the silver housing doesn't look as good... as the black xenons
People always want what they can’t have. My head hurts when reading through this thread and makes me laugh when I read someone speculating new life to the 718 due to “Porsche invested money in new headlights”.
The new PDLS non-+ is just a stripped version due to chip shortage and a way of providing a better looking headlight than the xenons.
I’m always buying the most expensive headlight due to an increasing demand for well lit roads ahead of me. My spec locked early January and I kept my fingers off the configurator since and was lucky my car was built with the PDLS+ lights, and PCCB’s
Interesting. Looking forward to seeing what these will actually look like as the configurator still shows old, base headlamps when selecting this new LED PDLS.
Seems like the only difference based on the descriptions of this LED PDLS vs. old PDLS+ is the high beam assistant and camera. From a supply chain perspective it makes sense, if they are having chipset issues for the windshield mounted camera for the HBA. Probably easier to pump out the LED headlamps again without the HBA and camera.
For me, would’ve made more sense if they offered a PDLS+ look - just without the camera bits etc. even if they had limited functionality, it probably would’ve satisfied most. They could’ve made it easier to retrofit the camera etc later or something too.
Tbh, having spent weeks obsessing over these things, I’m coming around to the PDLS lights. They strike me as a bit more classic looking, and more inline with the car… I dunno, I guess we can convince ourselves of anything lol
Actually the more I compare the differences I agree with you visually. For the RS where there is so many aero components, the PDLS and even the standard version have a more simple design and compliment the entire package more. Now with the standard GT4 and Spyder I prefer the PDLS+.
My configuration locks tomorrow so I asked my dealer to swap the Xenons for LEDs. They said that they won't be available until 11/7 if anyone is looking to switch.

One of my issues with the standard and PDLS headlights is they’re very similar looking to the old 981 gt4 headlight. The PDLS+ LEDs look more modern and the oval vs circle shape is more reminiscent of the newer 992s. Just some .02.

sounds right. My lock date is 11/11 and i just added LEDs to my build without any issues.

I was able to make the switch on my build today.
Evidently the only difference between these and the PDLS+ is the camera feature to do the high beam adjustment.
