LVDS cables come in many different end configurations, each destined for a different use, you must match the ends to your intended application.

IMHO, it is easier to order the correct OEM cable...

I totally agree, so many cables available that it's a crap shoot getting the correct one. Easier to get the OEM and eliminate that uncertainty. My dealer gave me a break on price and it only took one week to get it from Germany.

Finally got around to doing this on my 2017 base

Does not work on 2017 base. I don’t have the plug on the back of my console. Also be careful removing plastic trim as I snapped my trip reset button. Going to buy superglue and hope it stays. sad day for me for mods 😂

Ouch ... hope you can fix the button. Not sure what you're showing in your picture, The LVDS connector is on the upper part of the TFT display portion of the instrument cluster, hard to see from the side until you pull the instrument cluster out a bit and angle it to the left.

There is at least a dozen variants of the cluster for 982 Cayman starting MY 2017. I don't have the Online PETKA so I can't check which cluster you have with your VIN. Sorry it did not work out for you. Did you break the Reset button cover (#2 below)?

Here’s another angle, looks like the connector just wasn’t soldered on. I used petka for the cable, didn’t know there were so may cluster types lol.

Trip reset has held up well today, luckily broke at an angle just under the cap.

Thats a bummer, some earlier Caymans don't have the connector for video . Glad you got your reset button fixed.

I wonder if you can get the appropriate solder on circuit board connector for the LVDS, assuming that is it in the picture...

This universal connector should accept the OEM cable. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000...d=xRBs1WsKjoTP

Great research @Z06jerry! Based on this picture from @718socal it looks like a match. As long as it gets installed with the correct orientation as shown below it should work.

Can anyone provide a clear picture of the OEM cable end that plugs into the instrument cluster for reference?

haven’t installed this yet but I think the green goes into the cluster.

Thanks for the pictures! Agreed, the green end into the cluster.

And the grey end goes into the PCM... the keying helps to ensure this, and the 90-degree end provides some cable clearance.

You need to buy the LVDS cable part number 9P3-979-001.

The PCM removal is pretty straightforward remove the side trim on both sides and remove four screws.

Slide the PCM unit forward and locate the Grey connector.
Plug the Grey cable connector to the back of the PCM Grey connector and route the cable to the instrument cluster behind the PCM to your left after you remove the instrument cluster.

I used this video to remove the instrument cluster but not to stop my odometer

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxBvGZ9bmkI

After you remove the cover from the instrument cluster, move the cluster towards you.
Locate the Blue Teal connector and plug in the LVDS cable

You don't need to remove any cable, just make sure that you don't scratch the instrument cluster.
Reinstall everything and enjoy now.
Looks like my cluster (2018S without Nav) was manufactured without the LVDS connector! WTH. I have a new Porsche LVDS cable for sale which I won't be needing.

Sorry to hear about your cluster. Do you have a part number for your cluster? I wonder if the earlier clusters 2017-2018 did not have the LVDS without the NAV option. I have coded a few MY 2020-2022 Cayman and they all had the LVDS connector
