At a recent event there were about 7 4.0L cars. There was one GTS 4.0L that ticked and chirped like a ****. There does seem to be a range.

IMO, anybody who has a 981S or GTS would be making a big mistake if they traded it for a 718 GTS. The loud chirping, the weak-sounding exhaust, the odd exhaust valve programming all suggest to me that introduction of the 4 liter was a half-hearted effort to boost lagging sales of the previous GTS with the 2.5 liter turbo. Those cars from what I gather weren’t selling well in the NA market.

I mean your gripes are fixed for like $1600 with OAPs and $6 vac line plugs for the PSE.

There is a little injector tick on mine but with the above setup it sounds fantastic IMO, gives off all kinds of pops/burbles when you shift or let off, have absolutely zero complaints about the 4L.

Half hearted? Come on, you’re upset because your exhaust drones. It is ruining your experience based on this post. Also beneath the turbos swirls the 992 makes some of these sounds

😆. Yeah for sure. I owned a 981 Boxster S manual for 4 years then drank the Porsche Kool-Aid and traded it for C4S. Kept the 911 for 5 years and did not enjoy it (nowhere close) as much as my old Boxster. Now I am back in one but it is not as good out of the box like my old 981. I didn’t have to do anything to that car. No OAPs, exhausts, etc. Never mind. I’m old and cranky.

With the right exhaust (or even stock which is decent IMO) these cars are sensational. Don’t let anything ruin it for you! Back to the chirping, clicking and clacking, I am not sure there’s much to be done there.

That what makes the Spyder such a good car to me. There are so many different ways to make it better for each person...that last thing I want is something that needs nothing! And I am not talking just exhaust.

That's an idiotic statement. Of course defects in materials and workmanship that manifest themselves as noises are covered. What dealer said that?

Idiotic? That’s strong language considering your point is an abstract one and not a matter of fact.

The chirping noise is not a defect in materials or workmanship. It is what it is. It’s a symptom of the components utilized, which work perfectly but make noise. Sure, you as an owner are at liberty to demand that the dealer address it and argue your point to the extent you are upset by this, but so far it has not been covered by warranty. Porsche did release a campaign on this matter which I believe was posted in this very thread, but it’s not a service campaign that is automatically performed free of charge.

Let's keep in mind that not every 4.0 chirps, etc. - mine does not and I venture to say that most do not as well.

I'm assuming that the word NOT was unintentionally omitted.

Mine does, and it can be reproduced on demand. And it instantaneously stops and resumes at certain RPM's that I can demonstrate with ease. It may be unrepairable, I don't know. But I firmly believe it is something that someone at Porsche knows the answer to and I wish they could correct/minimize.

Correct, I updated it. I am not doubting your engine makes the noises you say it does and if it were my car I would not give up on getting it resolved somehow.

Sounds like this in my car. Very loud chirping at idle. PSE off or on.
