Engine Ticking Noise

My video is way up above in this thread. There's no doubt it's there. Two dealers have looked at it and both have given almost no effort beyond comparing it to other 4.0L cars and concluding it must be normal.

While I hate going to the dealer, gonna waive this infront of my dealer and see what they do. I've heard quite a few 4.0's in person and mine definitely chirps louder than most.

I just got back from a ride on a beautiful day. I guess mine ticks like a **** too if I try to listen for it… but I don’t.
The car’s just too fun to drive.

~6500mi later it's as prevelant as day one, idk. I've heard other 4.0's and they are substantally lower, to the point where i could tune it out. But even at like 4k rpm moderate throttle with an aftermarket exhaust, I can still hear it with the top down.

I'm assuming that the word NOT was unintentionally omitted.
Mine does, and it can be reproduced on demand. And it instantaneously stops and resumes at certain RPM's that I can demonstrate with ease. It may be unrepairable, I don't know. But I firmly believe it is something that someone at Porsche knows the answer to and I wish they could correct/minimize.

Porsche does have the answer. I stated that a campaign was released. It was posted in this thread.
I’ll repost it here. See attached.
I was one of the first people to speak about this topic after I took delivery of my 4.0 Cayman GTS in January, 2021. The noise bothers me and I think it’s ridiculous that the car should sound like a diesel at idle, but it bothers me less today than it did back then. I put it in the “it is what it is” category.

But on the other hand, honestly, who knows, there's a lot of disassembly to get to the fuel pipe. While every 9a2evo does it (incl. 992), for sure there is a varying degree of loudness to the ticking sound. Mine just unfortunately is the loudest I've ever heard, and I've heard quite a few. I'll certainly report what happens assuming the dealer actually does the procedure.

But according to you it just is what it is so how could any procedure, invasive or not, fix it? Won't it just still be?

Terry,
This is one of the better comparisons between the 918 GTS and the 718 GTS. Having owned a 2013 Boxster (981S) and now my current 2022 Boxster 25, personally, the reviewer makes a lot of valid points regarding ride quality and especially sound. The gruff-sounding 3.4 liter's exhaust which was always on, was a treat. The odd valve programming in the current version, its muted sound below 4k rpms, the lack of pops and crackles, the loud chirping sounds from the fuel injectors all make for a less vibrant driving experience. OEM comparison and yeah, the new one can be modified to suit individual tastes. The old one didn't really need any such adjustment.

As you, I and everyone else knows we all have our individual opinions, right ?
I don't have a Boxter, nor the Spyder, I have a 2021 Cayman 718 GT4 W/PDK.
I have spent thousands upon thousands to get my GT4 just the way I (Prefer) it to drive ONLY on the Street, Not-the TRACK.
It now has 9,000 miles plus on it after 2-years of ownership.
Serious, I'm thankful I was in the position to order mine and also my wife of plus 40-years supporting me ordering it and all the changes I have done over the past 2-years.
If I had the decision to make all over again ?????????????
I'd 100% definitely make the same decision other than I'd spend the $8,000 US Dollars for the Ceramic-Brakes if I had to do it all over again.
I suppose I would be placed in the category of, "TOTALLY-SATISFIED" Porsche Cayman 718 2021 GT4 owner.

Good for you. Maybe because I am a scientist and a researcher, I have the attitude of never being 100% satisfied with anything. Things can always be improved including myself. There is always something that I can learn especially from the mistakes I make. Nothing is perfect in my eyes except my wife of course. 😊
