my thoughts are how does the 0.3 shorter rear tire make the wheel gap look (probably not bad because the tire will stick out more), and how will the smaller speedo error affect traction control programming (it shouldnt because the delta will be 2%)
Hi Rennolazine!
On the Rear 0.3" - only half of that is on the radius. When I think about it, 0.15" about half the 9/32" tread depth of many new tires. I don't think it would be noticeable.
I'm starting to think a 4.0 Cayman for my next. But my next Porsche needs a wing. So a new GT4, our maybe a used GT3, or even a used 911 Turbo S with Aerokit. The availability of PDK and 4.0 is a big plus for the new 718's.
Know anybody interested in a 2 year old 1 owner Black 2017 911 S Endurance Racing Edition with X51 PowerKit, 12,000 miles, and two years new car warranty remaining?

Forgive me, because I understand very little of what is now being discussed here. If the 295mm tires were already a bit wide to go on the 11" Spyder wheel wouldn't it be even worse fitting 295mm tires on a 10.5" wheel?

And again, because this conversation is a bit over my head, do we agree that the rear 11" Spyder wheels will work on a GTS 4.0 without modification? Thanks.

The 295 measured rim width is 10.5''. They should work on 10-11'' rims. 305 would be too squishy on 10.5 tho.
The spyder wheels should work but not certain how it would look and whether suspension clearance is sufficient in the rear.

As you say the measured rim width for the 295 is 10.5" and for the 305 11", but as you can see from the picture above the 295 Dunlop (at least) looks fine with a little stretch to 11", gives it a nice straight sidewall.

As for clearances on the standard suspension it could be tight, the springs are narrow diameter on the GT4/Spyder and with the inverted damper the is no large plate near the edge of the wheel, even with all of this there is only about 5-6mm clearance between the spring and wheel edge.

The key thing to keep in mind is that tire widths are not the same from manufacturer to manufacturer, and often times even tire model to tire model from the same manufacturer. So "295" is really just a ballpark width and not an absolute value.

I knew that and it is a good point, I actually have all of the specs for the tires I am considering and have (Dunlop Maxx Race 2), the tread widths vary quite a bit but the advertised section widths (eg 295) are the same across brands, of course the measuring rim width can cause a small change in the sidewall profile as well.

For me it is comparing the Maxx Race 2 in a 295 (on the car) to the RE980AS in either a 295 (very narrow tread but same section width) to the 305 (larger section width) but still with a tread width 0.4" narrower than the Dunlop. The 305 will fit as the section width is above the spring mount and the narrower tread is not a concern either, the only small question is an increase in overall height from 27" to 27.2" overall

My dealer just got a Cayman GTS 4.0 allocation. Please let me know if you are interested.

On a whim, I was at my SF Bay Area dealer getting my wife's Macan serviced and asked if they had any build windows for the GTS 4.0. Turns out that they had one for December....so...20 minutes later, I had Agate Gray/Black-Bordeaux Cayman on order....Uhh Dear, turns out the Macan service cost a wee bit more than planned! ;-)

That’s exactly what I plan to do. First thing I’ll do right after some some PPF.

in fact, looking at tire sizes, it would be much easier to get “gt4” tire sizes than it is the GTS 4.0... by a long shot. The rear size is too small for too big a wheel for most high performance tire companies.
in wondering if that’s why the GTS comes with the kind of crappy Pirellis N1 that are first gen.

I picked my Cayman up a week ago. It came on PS4S rather than the Pirellis (all the Caymans seem to be being delivered on PS4S with all the Boxsters on Pirellis in the UK at the moment)

The car feels awesome so far and I am still running the engine in. Ride quality over bumpy surfaces is really good with the standard 20mm drop as well.
