Yeah, that caught me off guard too. The 4RS has much shorter gears than my Manual 992 GT3.

I believe the 4RS has as short a gearing as any GT3 motor has received to date.

1) Second above comment: only with sports exhaust on, in which case the drone is quite unbearable. Which is why I have no choice but always leave it off.

2) Disagree gearing is too tall. Imo, 1st and 7th both too short. The latter makes it difficult to stay on freeway for any prolonged run.

Agreed, 7 gear is too short. You are pushing 4k just going 80-85mph

Yes, and the 911 S/T has the lowest Manual gearing.

I think the gearing is mostly good, but it is busy on the highway. Yeah, 7th should probably be taller. The other six seem appropriate.

Regarding the drone, I have pretty significant drone or resonance around 2000 rpm. Not a pleasant sound. It's almost like the airbox is vibrating. I unscrewed it, looked at the air filters, then put it back on hoping that I made some subtle change that would reduce the unpleasant sound. Didn't make any difference.

The undesirable sound is really only about 1900 to 2100 rpm, so I just make sure to keep the rpm high enough to avoid it.

How does Sport Exhaust work on RS? Is it always ON/OFF depending on the setting, or does it depend on RPMs, throttle, etc? I was cruising today at 2,600 with no throttle and pushing the button did make the sound change. Tried it at 2,000 with no throttle but it was hard to detect any difference.

Kudos to Porsche for gearing the car for performance and not comfort, noise, economy, or emissions concerns.

While unusual and difficult to leverage in the US, the low 7th gear makes for a better Nürburgring time and better high-speed acceleration on the autobahn. For such an uncompromising car, makes no sense to lower performance in the interest of making it less “busy” on the highway, imo.

Agreed...

Having owned 2000hp + diesels and heavily modified Mopars.... drone is just kinda a thing to be expected with and respectable power.

The factory 718 exhaust though shouldn't be on the 4rs as it is. Yet I can't justify personapersonally swapping mine for an aftermarket.

This is an audio cue that you're lugging the transmission.

Best to keep the RPMs in the 3k to 4k range which results in no drone.

It's the same system as a regular GT4, so yes, it's too restricted for the application.
