I'm a big kid, so the crazy loud engine noise will be fun for me (most of the time). And, I was thinking about parade laps at the track. My PCA group does lunch-time parade laps to raise funds for charitable causes. The laps are done with a lead car, at highway speeds, without helmets. I usually find a kid in the paddock and invite them out for ride. I do my best to make the laps exciting at slower speeds. But the laps are mostly boring. Was thinking, kids and perhaps other drivers might get a kick out of a ride along in the RS without a helmet. Could be fun.
This isn't an early 2000's Evo 9 with an aftermarket exhaust. Modern cars don't have hardcore NVH and Porsche doesn't deliver a car to the public with drone. 2011 7.2 RS's where hardcore they had NVH. Sutcliff is pretty convinced it's just fine. See the back third of this video:
6:16 of the video he talks about turning off the pdk sport and sport exhaust and it's like driving a normal cayman....the later part of the video he's not seen screaming into the mic like some others.....I think for "Normal" driving it's fine....for those spirited driving yes it will be loud....but it's an RS...can't expect to be driving it like a sedan.

Yeah, I noticed that, too, and am not sure how to reconcile that with the report of 88 db cruising volume.

Most are making assumptions based on some of the reviewers....I get that's what most of us have to go by at this time. I'm sure Porsche will not produce a car that's going to cause people to go into any hardship (losing hearing) as you can imagine the liability that will come out of that. They leave that up to the 3rd mod companies to do that.
Off course some reviewers are going to go nuts on the pedal to add to the hype of the sound that resonate from the intake.....that's what most of them are supposed to do....:-)

This video has a noise meter. That’s actual evidence - not just what some reviewers say, but it supports people saying they had a headache after driving the car.
108 dB is definitely in the zone of causing hearing damage in a short amount of time, especially if it’s high frequency.
Can you putt putt around in this car. Yeah, but that’s not the focus of this car. You you want to travel at 2500 rpms everywhere, this isn’t the car.
Dismissing the loudness of the interior is a mistake. On track, at least you have a helmet. But, there are going to be a lot of regretful buyers thinking they can realistically drive this car on the road for any meaningful length of time and not suffer from it.
Sure, people may act as though they can tough it out like we did with loud music when we were younger.

108 dB is real.
What is the sound pull outside the car? Feels like its not going to be track legal at more than a few places due to sound.
I like to think I'm a die-hard. My previous car (987.2 Cayman) with Fabspeed race headers sounded awesome with the PSE valves open (more or less just a straight pipe.) Loved rolling around with the valves open, it had a great bark to it. But I definitely appreciated being able to close the PSE valves and go into quiet mode.
108dB is loud. That will be very fatiguing, quickly, if you're out even on like a mountain cruise and having fun winding the car up.

I agree that is very loud... but I think in general the car will be under 100dbs until you put your foot into it. so as long as you arent flooring it everywhere, maybe it will be ok?
I drove an hour on the freeway with my JCR Superlight with mad drone. While I was able to do it I definitely wouldn't recommend it or do it again. Just gonna use my Porsche Motorsport earplugs that came with my jacket...

I'm not saying I'm not concerned but I am hoping there simply is a big difference between on full throttle, intake sound and throttle bodies open vs absolute cruising in final gear and 2500 rpm. A few hours and under I will be fine as I know what 7.2 RS's were like (I drove that car to Rennsport from MN and yes, it was almost unbearable by the end. That however was more about NVH, road surface and lack of insulation not as much about exhaust). But there are tracks I want to drive to that will need some serious hiway time. We will see. I would like hear more in regard to this topic..
I'm coming out with a engine bay / cabin divider mod for those who want to enjoy it on the street. Just drill a couple holes in the body work and the roof and good to go
This is mostly a track toy for me so I'm not worried about the noise level.
