Default 1965 Porsche 356C Coupe Fully Restored into Outlaw

I am presently restoring a 1965 Porsche 356 Coupe into a slighly modified Outlaw.

You can find the link at

www.btinet.net/~sharoncol/porsche356.htm

The car will be complete sometime in the summer of 2010. I welcome any comments or suggestions.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my build,

thanks,
Shane Balkowitsch

Hi Shane, welcome to Rennlist.

WOW, that is one hell of a first post. I'll have to come back to it and go over it more closely some time. There's a lot there. Good job.

I love the pics at the bottom of Janis Joplin with her 356 cab. Those are awesome!

Great to have you here and good luck with the rest of the restoration. Make sure you show us pics of the finished product.

S, I would like to build an outlaw as well. On the 356 Registry there has been some lovely pix of late. Since my eyes get tired (age) and that is a heck of a website, I will ask, are you doing a GT?

Default Outlaw

I have put much thought into my Outlaw and since it is an Outlaw, I am not so limited in some of the things that I want to do. I will have a GT Mirror on the drivers side, with no bumpers I have no way of illuminating the rear license plate so I have found a remake of a 550 Spyder light housing for the rear. We are going to do many performance upgrades to the engine. Our goal is to get it to about 125HP, performance is important but so is reliability. We have not determined yet what exactly this will entail, but Weber carbs for sure, upgraded pistons and cylinders, already have high performance lightweight Stebro quad tip exhaust hanging above the car on the wall awaiting installation. Scat crankshaft may also be on the list. We are going to find a comfortable spot between performance and reliability. Full flow oil system is a must for longevity. Just some of the things I have been thinking about. Bill my builder is going to put a gameplan together for the engine. I am not saying there is not a budget, but I refuse to take shortcuts or not get everything I want for the car when it comes to performance. The way I look at it I only have this one chance to do it right and I am determined not to cut corners. I hope you follow my build as we progress. Glad you liked the website, rather simple, but I have put much time and research into it and wanted to educate someone who does not know anything about the 356 model if they happen to stumble upon it. I have much to learn.

Thanks,
Shane

Default Photo of My 356 As Purchased

This is a picture of my car as it sat at the previous owners garage. He took the car apart 22 years ago and put all the pieces in cardboard boxes. His intentions were to restore it but it sat untouched for over 2 decades. I purchased the car unseen except for this photograph and had it cover hauled to Texas where Bill is presently doing the restoration. I have never seen my car with my own eyes, I have never sat in a 356 before, I feel very blessed to be able to take on this challenge and project. Only 1101 of these C Coupes were produced in 1965, it is the last year for the model, the end of very significant era for the Porsche brand. I truly enjoy sharing this experience with others.

Thanks,
Shane

Boy, this car sure lucked out when you became it's dad!

Can't believe you've never seen the car or even sat in a 356, yet you're going after this project 100%.

Keep the updates coming.

Default Thanks

Thanks Phil for your kind words. It is a pretty large undertaking but I am very excited about it. Please continue to follow my build and I would welcome any comments or thoughts as we go forward. Late summer of 2010 is going to be a special time for me and my car. Hopefully in time for some drive time before the North Dakota winter set in. I built a heated garage last year in anticipation of the build, it will be nice and cozy over the winter tucked away while it is 40 below zero outside. Thanks for your enthusiasm about my build.

Thanks again,
Shane

Our C was one of those 1101 you speak of, a factory 12 volt.

Cool project you've got there, and I find it even cooler that you've never sat in one....

You are in for a treat!

Default 12v

How are you? My car actually is a 6V, we are going to convert it to 12V during the restoration process. Thanks to everyone who is following along with me.

Thanks,
Shane

thanks for posting. Its motivating. Last couple weeks, I've been making tooling. something that's a necessity, but doesn't show much progress.

Keep up the good work.

Default Car at Painters

My car is waiting at the painters to have K45-286 Porsche Silver applied to it with a large fat Porsche 921 Grand Prix white racing strip running the length of the car.

Thanks,
Shane
