My Trailer Diary
#382
I'm designing a small enclosed trailer, either 16 or 18, so the size really limits my options. My concern is car clearance over the stored tires and interference with the winch.

For car tire storage, I had a custom aluminum rolling tire rack built. I have a side ramp door (street side) that I load/unload it. The rack has mounting for my jack, electric impact, nitrogen tank, air tank, torque wrench, etc. I just unload it and roll it to my pit area and I have everything I need. With the side ramp door, I don't have to worry about loading or unloading the car, the car and all my gear is not independent of each other for a load/unload perspective.
I have recessed airline track that you can see in the pics that I use to strap it down... This setup has worked great.

I worked with a fabricator very closely. He is a friend that has worked on my cars for a really long time. I started off the research by doing google searches to get ideas. Also took pictures at a few club races and pro race of other carts that I saw and liked. The pics above are when it was about 90% complete. I will take some of how the finished version came out if anyone has interest.
The final dimensions were based on exactly where I wanted it to be when in place in the trailer. We did a few mock ups with boxes and 2X4s to make sure I would have access to everything I wanted in the trailer when it would be strapped down fully loaded.
Next I assembled all of the gear I use in the pits (jack, impact wrench, sockets, etc.) and put it in a pile. Then the fabricator worked on a few different layouts that fit with in the dimensions to come up the overall design. Was actually a rather fun process. I ended up with something that fits exactly what I needed, fits the spot in the trailer just right, and makes my time at the track easier since it is organized with most of what I need…
The wheel and tires were just for some test pics that were sent to me. Not sure what they are but they were from a twin turbo viper the shop was working on at the time…
