if by 911, you mean the longer 996/997, then you need 32' CLEAR INTERIOR FLOOR SPACE. this is to have bumper to bumper really really tight, but u can do it if you are nuts. 34' clr is good. i put two 997 in 36' clear deck, much better. at this length, you need gooseneck/fifth wheel.

How long is the overhang typically? How much floorspace would a 40 footer have?
EDIT - looks like the 40 footer I was looking at only has 32' of floorspace, so 8' overhang...

usually over hang is 8'. so a 40'gooseneck = 32 clr floor.
but some manufacturers doesn't measure that way. a 40 foot featherlight = 40' clear + 8' overhang
a 40' TPD = 32 clear + 8' overhang
if you want flexibility 44' is the way to go, some even prefer 48'
after owning many trailers, i firmly believe that there is no trailer big enough, even for one car. i can fill a 53' semi with stuff for just one car!, they key is to find someone who can part the damn thing for u

Getting ready to actually load the lux-o-barge with the p-car and head off for my inaugural tow this coming weekend. Damned excited, if I say so myself. I got my gas bottle filled. Airgas won't fill it with plain-jane compressed air, so I put in nitrogen. It was actually cheaper than pure air. Once I plumbed the bottle in the trailer, I found that TPD ordered the wrong regulator model. Mine is somehow only capable of 15 psi output. WTF?!?!?!!! So... now a new one is on order. One that actually goes to 100 psi. I also discovered that Amazon sells the new Superwinch wireless remote (model #06718) for a big discount over MSRP. That is now on order as well. Thanks, Amazon!
I also made the decision to go with the Irvan-Smith tire cart. I wrote to them, asking if they would custom make a specific size for me (50" on the shelf rails). They said "yes, no problem". My two biggest concerns going this route were:
1 - The cart is going to rub and scrape against the workbench cabinet & Kennedy tool box
2 - There is not enough space in my garage to store the cart
I managed to solve #1 via a clever use of my utility mat. I purchased the one from Mac's Custom Tie-downs.
http://www.macscustomtiedowns.com/product/349/28
It fits perfectly between the trailer wall on the right and workbench's "L" on the left, very nearly giving complete coverage for the workbench I'll be strapping the cart to. This is where those E-track singles come into play!
I can solve #2 by getting rid of the large workbench I have in my small, single-car garage. I hate to give it up, but... the truth is that it was used much more as shelving than what it's intended purpose was - an actual work surface.
I'm going to use the shoring beams to hold the tires on this inaugural trip. Fingers crossed that everything fits as designed.
I've also got a tongue lock on order. And I've spent way too much time and $$$ at my local hardware store buying in bulk for stuff like shop rags, micro-fibre towels, shop paper towels, solvents, lubricants, cleaners, etc. Gotta fill all those cabinets! LOL

Great thread. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. And yes please post lots of pics (especially interested in details around side door and awning when awning is open).

Well, I arrived safe and sound in lovely Willows, CA (Thunderhill race track), everything still sitting in the trailer exactly as I had left it 3-1/2 hours earlier. However, things got off to a very rough start. I had planned for a 2 hour load-up and to get on the road by 1pm to miss the commuter traffic. Boy, things did not go smoothly. I didn't make it out on to the highway till 3pm.
I didn't actually load stuff for all that time. I was also busy working on the trailer. I had to check the torque of the wheels - but didn't have the proper size of socket (damn SAE sizes!), so... off to the hardware store. I also glued a piece of nice carpet to the wall behind where the ratchets of the straps hang. That required a lot of precise cuts to get it just the way I wanted it.
I used my shoring beams to hold 2 sets of race wheels. These sit just above the frunk, spanning from wall to wall. The tires fit snugly and, like everything else in the trailer, they stayed put and didn't slosh around.
Pics to follow!

cant wait to see the pictures
Lar, is your arrow door cabinet mounted simply with the hardware arrow provided? or did TPD do something special to mount it? i am going to order the same arrow door cabinet, making sure i can simply screw it on with arrow provided hardware.
