Taycan Turbo vs. Lucid Air Grand Touring

Tesla doesn’t mess around with requiring any special modes to access full power - it’s always all there, and that’s a big benefit IMO.
(yes, I know about the battery preheating and cheetah modes needed for the best 1/4 mile performance, but no button pressing or menu diving is needed to access the full power the powertrain can give at any given moment)

How to Turn on Tesla Ludicrous Plus Mode
- Activating Ludicrous Plus Mode is as simple as tapping the “Ludicrous Plus” button on the touchscreen. Achieving the quickest acceleration times then requires activating Launch Mode.

Also, throttling down the battery power make the car easier to drive, which is one the biggest complaints new owners have with Teslas.

There’s no reality in which I’d prefer to drive a car that makes me remember to push a button or series of buttons to access the full power the powertrain is capable of. The accelerator pedal is all I need.

… imagine if they had long term tested a first year production 2020 Taycan 👀👀🍿 the list of issues would have been a mile long. Almost every first year production car from any company is going to have some issues. Good and bad

or an early tesla model S, I had two catastrophic failures in the first year.

And MT acknowledges both how amazing it is as car but also its foibles:
"The Lucid Air Is a Beautiful Snowflake
Will Lucid work out the bugs so it's not just for early adopters willing to overlook its flaws? We'll see. For now, a year with the Air leaves us in awe, but also frustrated. This is a beautiful car and it's like nothing you've ever experienced. Considering all the problems we had, however, this amazing car also feels fragile; it isn't for everyone."
Caveat Emptor doesn't mean "don't buy this" - it means "buyer be(a)ware."

When she's on, she's fantastic. When she's not, you notice that your pet rock is a better conversation partner.

FWIW - I had a deposit sight unseen on a Lucid Air GT and then cancelled after my test drive. The car is very good and I really like the way it looks. However, for me the biggest factors were the maturity of the tech and the charging network, so I bought a Tesla Model S Plaid and don’t regret it for one second. I don’t want to worry about software issues or charging problems, and even though Lucid has a better stated range, Tesla dominates the ease of charging on a road trip. The acceleration in the Plaid is mind bending and totally addictive. It will benefit all of us if Lucid and Rivian both succeed and push Tesla to improve as well. Even though I have several Porsches the Taycan was never a consideration for me based on range, price, and charging network.

Don't blame you... the plaid was a monsterously fun drive in a straight line.
I take delivery this week of the Air GT... the lease deal was just too good to pass up on, especially since I'm still not sure that electric will work for my needs. It's an 18 month no-strings-attached trial... if we love it, I could see buying one for my long work trips and picking up a taycan turbo/s for local drives, after they both continue depreciating at a ridiculous rate... i dont see the plaid being in the picture for me unless I decide I need an SUV, in which case an X plaid is something I'd consider.

the reality is that all three cars are quite close to each other, each one has it's pluses and minuses.
the taycan has superior looks, better BMS and slightly better handling than the Lucid but the lucid has a lot going for it, such as a massive battery
the thing that moved me over to Lucid is the superior range and the incredible leasing offers.
My Lucid is costing me over $800 a month less than what my taycan cost.
enjoy your tesla.
