Those are BumperPlugs which are marketed as an aesthetic solution to screw holes in front bumpers. They're color matched to the factory paint colors, but still noticeable. A bumper respray is far better but more expensive

Oh I know exactly what they are. My comment was more in the “but why?” category. Apparently the car has a buyer, so moot point.

When I saw the LWBS missing the first thought is the damage was severe enough to replace seats. This would gain a ton more interest with those seats still in the car and with a lot less questions that will distract bidders.
What is the seat name/model that seller has put in instead?

Just base model Cayman sport seats.

I just asked what happened to the original seats.

I suspect the answer is the seller is flipping them for a profit.

Or maybe they were damaged in the accident? I'll ask that next.

I talked with him extensively prior to his listing the car. He's taking them out because he is going to hunt a 997.1 GT3 next, and wants the buckets for it.

I don't have any details on the accident (because he didn't either, given it was during prior ownership), but I think the fact they CPO'd it probably suggests it wasn't major. Who knows though . . .

That's a pretty good reason to do what he's doing.

Agreed. He definitely wouldn't get equivalent value for them in the car relative to what he'd spend to acquire for the next car.

Funny how that works with the bucket seats.
Inside a car, worth maybe $10k.
Outside a car, worth $15k-$20k.
It's a wonder that everyone doesn't pull them.

I love my buckets but equally I can see why an owner might do this. Is it only the 997 GT2 that these were OE or are there other 997 models with the option?

Only standard on 7.2 3RS. Could be optioned on 7.2 non-RS, but not actually standard equipment on any US car other than Cayman R / Spyder. Not even an option on 7.1 GT. Kinda crazy.

Thanks, so standard on 997.2 GT3 RS and an option on the 997.2 GT3. Logically it must be the non RS owners buying these as the RS owners will already have them.

Mostly correct. But all 7.1 owners want them, because wasn’t an option at all. I bought a set from Carnewal before they went NLA and put them in my 7.2, then carried them over to my 7.1 RS.

So yes, they were available on the Spyder, Cayman R, and 997.1 RS & .2. But little known fact is they sold them in RoW cars all the way up to and including 991.2. RoW you could even get them in a 991.2T. I know this is sacrilege, but they are not as rare as some make out to be but they are discontinued. That being said, red and beige/tan are rare and, as far as I know, can’t be reupholstered to make them those colors.

Not an option on US 7.1RS. And they’re no longer GT2 buckets after 997. 991 / 981/ 718 are different seats. The rarest of the rare are CGT buckets, which is what you could get on RoW Clubsport 7.1 RS.
