Default The Spyder / Cayman R Auction Thread

I think there are a few of us who enjoy watching the auctions of these vehicles but the auction posts are usually spread out over a few threads. I am making a thread to keep them all in one place for better organization and discussion. With the rarity of these cars, there shouldn't be too much overlap.

With that, when you find a new auction, please post it here!

Not an auction, but there is a 51K mile Peridot Cayman R on PCA's mart (ask is $63.5K)

I bought this car earlier this year and I’m considering parting with it because I just don’t use it as much as I’d like to.

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...ter-spyder-45/

I paid $65k, spent $2.3k on a paint correction and ceramic coat and added the Softronic tune ($1k) which is amazing (but also reversible). I’d love to recover my funds (this doesn’t include the shipping and sales tax of course) but I understand that the market doesn’t care what I have in the car. It has 19k miles now but otherwise is the same as in the BaT listing.

Looking for advice on where to list and what to list it for. Have typically found forums to just be tire kickers unless you happen to luck into finding someone close. Any and all advice appreciated!

Why not just relist it on BAT? You’ll get a good audience there.

For sure. You have basically THE hot spec. Manual, buckets, PSE, low miles, you'll have no trouble recouping your costs at all. That said, I vote KEEP it!

Agreed with the keep it comment. It's not a depreciating car. Unless you need the money for something or have an amazing investment opportunity I'd keep the car. It's a hot spec, but not THE hot spec, that would include PCCB.

Very similar spec/miles to the last black one that auctioned, although this has a clean Carfax and in Canada.

Sold for $70k, or $73,500 with the 5% buyers fee. There were quite a few commenters asking about the import process which may have turned some potential bidders off as this is a Canadian car. I think both parties got a fair price and the new owner can drive off with one of the best drivers cars!

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...e-cayman-r-26/

Cayman R up on Bring A Trailer. Low mileage 6k mile example. It originally lived in Puerto Rico before being sold in New Jersey which may be why it's difficult to find the options list with this car. From what I see, it's a PDK with Sport Chrono Plus, Xenon headlights, otherwise a pretty low optioned car. I do love me a white CR.

Good spec but I'm surprised it doesn't have PSE to compliment the SC+.

No heated seats, which makes sense with the original delivery to Puerto Rico, cupholders in the dash, and appears to be an Alcantara steering wheel too.

Thanks for posting... I don't think there's any car model that looks so good in white as a CR. FYI - that's the regular Sport Chrono package. Sport Chrono Plus package was only available in conjunction with PCM.

MSRP is probably on par with most CRs... the car has Park Assist (sensors in rear bumper) and the color-matched interior plastic bits behind the seats, both of which are rare, pricey upgrades. The PDK, Bose system, SC package, Xenon and Auto A/C were all upgrades for a cost too. Cupholders, radio, and Sport Seat downgrade were at no cost.

That last Cayman R BAT auction is nuts. Maybe 987.2's have just become the new "it" car, or maybe inflation is completely out of control and people are doing anything they can to ditch their cash... who knows?

95K with fees for a car with PDK, no buckets and no other nice to haves (leather dash, PCCB) is completely insane to me. The corrosion on the underside baffles me too. The seller, and apparently the bidders, were all "what corrosion, no big deal!" but if I'm spending 100K on a 987 it had better look new underneath. The aluminum corrosion looks nasty to me. I was also thinking I'd hate to be the guy who has to change out the exhaust with all the bolts being totally rusted. Whatever, other people's money, their business.

That BAT car makes this one seem like the no brainer buy of the century:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/16493576395...MAAOSw-ixg21qi

For only 10% more you get:
1) way cleaner car
2) desirable collectable iconic colour
3) buckets
4) manual
5) leather dash

Unless their are nasty things in the DMS report or crash history I don't know why this car is still for sale based on the insanity that is BAT.

I have to agree with KrisA. The Peridot R is very nicely equipped, and certainly looks to be worth the asking price. I may have overlooked a few photos, but I didn’t see any underside shots with the corrosion found on the BAT Cayman R sold yesterday.

I too was surprised by the seller’s remarks that the rust didn’t impact drivability; I get that … but like KrisA, for my $100k I wouldn’t be comfortable knowing about the corrosion on those fasteners … or any other corrosion that may be lurking. Hopefully the buyer will be able to replace those bits and make it right.
