RNM at $80k on that recent 2011 Black Spyder.
Perhaps this is the first time I'm giving it any thought but wouldn't it be in the sellers best interest to set a higher price where it may not meet reserve and then work it out with the high bidder after the auction? So if gentleman bidder was willing to pay $84k with fees, couldn't he follow up with the seller after not meeting the reserve and offer the same figure. Seems like a win/win. Buyer still gets the car, seller gets an extra $4k the buyer would have paid in fees. Or am I missing something?

Interesting to hear and it makes sense they would have all the 'angles' covered. I know BAT draws eyeballs, and perhaps call me old fashioned, but it just always every bit as easy to me to sell a car privately without the whole bidding/fee format. I have never listed a car on BAT though so I may be naive to other inherent benefits. It probably works best when BAT hopes to/can generate a higher sales figure for your car than you would otherwise achieve privately.

BAT has substantial input into the setting of the reserve amount -- somewhere between "They have to agree to your proposed reserve" and "They set the reserve for you." And they obviously have a vested interest in having auctions end in sales, so they have kind of a reputation for forcing reserves that are on the low side. I've seen posts, maybe here, from potential sellers who didn't go through with listings because they couldn't agree with BAT on an acceptable reserve.

My friend got his Spyder that way. Went on BAT, didn't meet reserve, kept in contact with the seller and made a deal similar to the highest bid that was on BAT. Everyone wins. Well, besides the guy who sold it 1.5 years too early

Sold for $69k without fees. Glad to see it sold as the last two Spyder's on BAT were Reserve Not Met and I was worried prices not just cooling off, but dropping.. Based on averages, seems in line to expect to pay around $70k for a weekend driven (15k-20k miles), non-concourse Spyder at this time.
