'89 944..What kind of light bulb socket do you use in the rear center light? I have a lens assembly that I'd like to use, but don't have any sockets for it..and what bulb do you use? a 194? Can't believe that they just kind of dangle around inside the lens assembly like another poster told me how he does it..Crazy!!

I believe they were 194 bulbs, although the light output was very faint and frankly almost pointless to have. The sockets, so to speak, were just a molded portion of the center piece that the bulbs "snapped" into, which is a poor adjective to use considering the existing center had to have duct tape to support the bulbs in the molded sockets, and in turn the center I swapped in had to have the same support system.
Ultimately, I'll be removing the center and filling the holes when it comes time to repaint the car. This was just an aesthetic upgrade over the faded orange one.
I drive the old gal from Kingsport, TN to her new home in BG. Ran like a top and had no issues over the 5 hour trip. I forgot how great this car is on gas. I will drive her this summer and tackle a few projects this winter. I even remembered to enter the code for the stereo before I left lol.
just took it around the block to get the juices flowing.
spent most of the weekend preparing the garage for the 944s next phase...including wiring the garage for my welder and plasma cutter
Plasma cutter..is that your P-car I her shuddering in fear of many yet to be many body modifications? LOL!
I have just about completed my oil cooler upgrade project..have yet to TIG on the end plates to the bottom support piece, then use a hole saw on it to conserve weight? HMM..not too sure about the last part..but I got the new brackets to hold the cooler all afixed to the bottom plate..had to drill and tap the plate, Hope to get this installed fairly soon on the chassis, in the front valence or behind it somehow..
Did a few jobs to prep it ready for my nephew to drive it from the UK Midlands to Rome next weekend (no pressure);
Checked the timing belt tension since I changed it ~1500 ago, seems OK.
Checked the flex fuel pipes and coolant pipe condition as there is no history on these parts - I think they have been changed before as someone prepped it for a Gumball 3000 last year.
Siliconed the passenger mirror back in place as the mount was broken.
Refixed the fan in place and RTV'd the cowl in place. Hacked off the 2 lumps in the fan cowl so it can come in or out now if I need to get at the fan bearing again.
Refitted the hatch catches with new bolts, stuck my smallest daughter in the back the adjust the latches whilst I turned the key etc. All seemed good until test run and the hatch to sprung open as soon as the engine started.
Then it rained (always does on a bank holiday) so threw in the towel...
Still to do;
Fit new expansion tank cap as the old one has a split seal.
Fix the washer system, there is a leak under the car through the bumper/airdam that seems to be coming from headlamp washer connection???
~95 through disassembly on my '84 NA's clutch replacement. Just gotta get the clutch bell housing loose and then it's on to the flywheel, pilot bearing and oil seal.
Installed led dome, engine, and hatch lights. Why? So I can leave my door open for days if I want to, and not have a dead battery! LOL BTW, super bright LEDs has the wrong light listed on their site for our glove boxes. They list 6411, that's a 44mm light. Our glove boxes take a 30mm. So if you do this, order appropriately.
And why do I keep a tub in my hatch? (Everyone asks... Not) this is why!

Nice 951! good solution to an ever present problem especially in SUV's as well. Removed all the steel brake lines from the belly of my 944 last night. Fuel lines are next...and they REALLY need replacement!
ordered a few new retaining clips for both...any truth to the matter of replacing rear axle nuts on early 944's when re-doing the rear bearings due to torque stretch? Seems that torque stretch would be more prevelant on the stub axle portion, but maybe not, since they are a mating pair? Comments?
My cruise control was wonky and would usually just keep accelerating when engaged. Changed the control box to my spare to no avail. Took the cruise control motor unit out and pulled it apart, cleaned the contacts and copper track, (just like in AFM) buttoned it back up and success it works again

part # is 311501221 but Pelican Parts says NLA.
since it has a cotter pin, i'd reuse it.

Yeah when I finally got their website to work, they wanted about 20.00 ea. So I checked out EMPI and got them for about 10.00 ea . Hope they are the same as a '71Super Beetle
