Made my dashcam integral to the '83, so there's no more power wire snaking across the cabin to the cigarette lighter. Basically just wired the power to the radio, incorporating the processing board that's cased inside the power adaptor normally. The wiring is tucked behind the headliner and A pillar trim pieces.


This thing is easily the best part I've added to the car in 2017, so many terrible and irresponsible drivers in Houston. For under $100, I HIGHLY recommend getting one....you never know.

Finally fixed that squeaky rear hatch. It turned out to be a loose driver-side catch. One of the nuts had fallen off and the other was very loose. I installed a new nut and lock washer with loctite. I put loctite on the other side too. Bonus - Now the remote release works!

Of course, then it needed a test drive to confirm the squeaking was gone.

 

Removed tensioner studs from 2.7 block and replaced them with longer home made 8.8 studs to fit 968 hydraulic tensioner and modified balance cover for turbo oil outlet.

 

cool. if you ever need to compress the tensioner cylinder, you should use the thick crank bolt washer on the bottom end and Subaru recommends that type of cylinder be vertical during the process.

 

An exhaust leak (I think at one of the two downpipe flanges) on my 86 NA started a chain of planned maintenance. I bought this car about a year and a half ago, and all this stuff has been on my list to do. I had to wait for new exhaust hardware to come in, so I figured I'd take the intake off as well and do all the WYIT stuff on my list:

- New spark plugs and wires
- New distributor cap and rotor
- Rebuilt throttle body
- Cleaned/degreased intake
- Ultrasonic injector cleaning
- Cleaned a bunch of electrical grounds
- Replaced idle stabilization valve mounts
- Replaced a ton of vacuum hoses
- Full replacement of all small vacuum control lines
- Replaced air-oil separator and o-rings
- Cleaned water temp sensor contacts
- New seals and o-rings aplenty

After being down for nearly two months while I chipped away at all this work, she started on the second crank, and didn't even catch fire!

And notice what isn't on the list: fixing the exhaust leak. Next weekend...

All of the stories of leaking fuel lines had me scared- especially with the stock lines tucked back at strange angles for a couple of months. Here's a pic right before the first crank...

My car lives again! Woot!

Idles a bit high since all the hoses and j-boot are new. Also cleaned and rebuilt the throttle body. Couldn't believe the amount of crap caked around the idle adjustment screw.

Other than that it's never run this smooth. All seals, gaskets and o-rings replaced. New rod bearings, and BS bearings, rebuilt the torque tube. Resealed the oil pump, valve job done with new seals.. and who knows what else I'm forgetting..

Last couple of items are to swap the bad, rebuilt PS rack, with another rebuilt rack and install the hood. Once that is done, get an alignment and I'm good to go.

 

yup, ending up with $550 out of pocket.
