Replaced the cooling fan switch after my fans failed to turn off post cruising...
Getting my hands dirty ( and everything else too) replacing the cooling fan switch after it failed.
Spent many hours in the past week putting this car back together after the head gasket replacement. Installing the head and cam housing was EASY.
Getting the hose clamps, vacuum lines, wiring, and everything else to fit properly took FOREVER.
I would have been done in half the time, but I was simultaneously installing new parts, including A-Tune and the Innovate SCG-1 wide-band gauge with boost control and logging.
I also installed the updated speed and reference sensor bracket with sleeve - it completely solved my hard start issues.
List of other notable repairs/mods this winter:
Lower balance bearings, plus re-seal and Voith's vitron end seal
Oil filter housing reseal and re-using 3-piece OPRV
Rebuilt power steering pump
Rebuilt throttle
Cleaned all the connections on tail lights.
Re-sealed tail lights to body
Replaced gutted cat mid-pipe with catless 2.5" Bursch.
SFR 321 SS header after discovering cracked original headers
Valve seals replaced in head
LR dual-port waste-gate
Fixed power steering reservoir return line
Zinc-clad a bunch of things
Ceramic coated a few things
Cleaned a lot of things
What amazes me the most, is that I can do all this and get it to start on the first try, but I cannot solve my hatch latches. Currently have the lifts disconnected so I can drive without it popping up after a corner.
Not sure. I bought the car about a month prior and had no reason to suspect anything was wrong other than the struts (which I replaced a week prior to this happening).
At the very least I'm learning a lot real quickly!
Headed home and in a pack of cars on the highway. Car in front of me changed lanes quickly and I was staring at a wheel barrel in the middle of the lane. Cut the wheel and pushed the car beside me onto the shoulder, but still managed to catch part of it. Not sure who was more sick, me or the mrs.
I had the same basic question... Apparently that gen Escort has a Miata engine, but mounted sideways? I honestly don't have a damned clue. Guy was super-nice, which was a nice change from the dudebro Miata club. He did bust a tie rod end during the cruise, though!
