Again, if it pre-'75, there won't be any challenges because no inspection is required. But, let's say one of your buddies writes to the Air Resources Board and notifies them that he removed the smog pump, put in a huge motor, etc., and gives them his name and address. Well, he better also buy himself a tube of KY... he's going to need it.

Oh: Post #873.

No way would I spend $150k (minimum) for a Corvette! Mid-engine/front-engine/side-engine/no-engine! I know people who own Corvettes because "it's the only car that scares me..." however many admit "the car is a piece of ----". Last one I had was a smog-controlled 1981 with less hp than my 911 so I have no current first hand knowledge. Much more tasty cars out there for $150k!

"Which specific "LS" motor are you referencing? Aren't the LS type V8 motors pushing 500 lbs or more dressed out?

A fully dressed out M96/01 is about 419lb manual and 395lbs Auto"

B3: The Chevy website advertise the LS3 at 403#'s. Not sure if this is turn-key or bare long block or a marketing/advertising number!

#1492: A Technical Thread will derail into a bunch of nonsense, and a Nonsense Thread will derail into something technical.

The air-cooled "purists" will continue to see the 996 as the red-headed step child that shouldn't be recognized as 911 family.

I don't want to go too far down the purist rabbit hole. We would all be walking if we were really the purists some claim to be. "Horses are for sissies!"

Right, Cuda was just being pedantic (sorry, Mike. )

While it's technically TRUE that you should operate your 1975 and older car with its emission systems intact, there is no inspection to verify its presence and no tailpipe sniffer to ensure it's working. Unless you're blowing so much smoke that a "concerned citizen" reports your license plate as a gross polluter, you can do whatever you want.

Also: overscrupulous, scrupulous, precise, exact, perfectionist, punctilious, meticulous, fussy, fastidious, finicky.

You know, like the kind of guy who would correct you for stating that your 1975 Camaro isn't smog-exempt and point out that it is not technically exempt, but exempt from being examined.

By the way, have I complimented you on your dictionary skills? They seem rather phat, perhaps to the extent of being mad. L33t? Who can say?
