As per B3's question, does the V8 affect weight, center of gravity, oversteer, etc... I like the thought if mine pukes the engine just wouldn't want a straight line brick!

I agree, I wouldn't want LS V8 motor in a Porsche as much as I wouldn't want a air cooled Flat6 engine in a Corvette.

Could you imagine your winning football team giving up it's star running back to play for the other side during the big game?

The two are rivals, let's keep it that way.

Do not assume grasshopper, the LS is a few pounds lighter. Also, do not post that picture again.

Which specific "LS" motor are you referencing? Aren't the LS type V8 motors pushing 500 lbs or more dressed out?

A fully dressed out M96/01 is about 419lb manual and 395lbs Auto

A properly-done LS swap weighs nominally more than the motor it replaces. The V8 package fits in the 996 engine bay, and a small-block V8 isn't necessarily taller than the M96 depending on how the intake and exhaust are treated.

If you want a belt-driven blower sitting on top of a foot-tall aluminum stack, you may have some fitment issues.

Take a look at the depth of a gen-4 Corvette engine bay - you'll be amazed at how shallow the entire engine package is.

If it would be smog-legal and I could do it PROPERLY (i.e. no canned foam and no 2x4 engine mounts), I would not hesitate for a minute to drop a crate small-block LS/LT engine into my 996. The C4 996 is a rock solid platform; it would be a blast to have an additional 100HP and 100 lb-ft of torque from a slow-spinning, bulletproof V8.

Because of the two completely different engine designs, wouldn't the center of gravity be affected thus causing handling issues?

The c/g upset from switching motors would be less than the upset of having an adult passenger sitting in the passenger seat...I don't see people spinning their 996's into ditches because the wife or buddy came along for the drive...

What if you have a 200 pound passenger and a LS hybrid 996.. what would that do to the car's center of gravity?

If you're asking if it would be different - probably; I suspect nominally.

If you're asking if it would be an OMG FIERY DEATH big deal, no, I don't think so. If the issue is lateral grip, install a half-inch-wider wheel/tire package and move on.

It would burst into flames (hopefully) regardless of engine or who was driving

Would that be a 200 lb woman...??? I see all kinds of gravity issues there...

I like the idea of dropping an LS motor in my 996 - but the thought of trying to get that past CA smog...!!!!!!!! Not to mention it's a 20k swap!
