Hi. I have a 1984 Red Porsche 928S, Northern California.
I've never pulled an engine. I bought a hoist and leveller. Im nervous about attaching chain to the wrong spot. I've taken two pictures and I've searched the forums. I'm just not clear on the spot that is designed to attach.
Please help.

In that first pick are you intending on lifting from the air pump bracket?

You should have hooks on each head, one on left front and one on the right rear. From standing in front. They are hard to see or can be missing.

Great. Thank you. I now see the two lift points. I've read to attach to a third spot for balance. Is there another lift point or is that less important. I'm using this lift

it all depends on how you pull it. but you should not need any other attachment.

Make sure the bolt for the leveler are strong enough. Also, find someone that that pulled an engine (doesn't have to be a 928) in their life and have them at least be there to guide you through it.

When you start lifting it, go slow and constantly circle the engine looking for unhooked wires because that lift has no mercy when it comes to forgotten connectors.

You'll be surprised how well it balances utilizing those two points and the leveler.

I have done this by myself with my S4, and can say that the second time I did it with three helpers it went a ton smoother.

I pulled one earlier this year with no prior experience. You can do it, although I agree that having someone with experience on site would've been helpful.

Make sure that you have room in front of the car to move the engine-and-hoist assembly once it is up in the air and free from the car. Ask me how I know this. LOL

If you are doing this on your own I would suggest leaving the fuel injection harness in the car by completely disconnecting it and laying it over the right fender as feeding it through the firewall is a pain without some help. That said I might be able to help as I just went through this drill. Check your PM's.

I pulled mine Saturday from the side and I removed the wiring harnesses from the top and front and set them aside.

Rob, that's the throttle cable...it's strong...but it ain't that strong.
