I think whatever material you use will work as long as someone doesnt install these with their Hulk hands on. All the materials are stable and i dont live in Satans driveway so temperature for me is no issue.

ABS will give you the best surface finish, but its hard to work with and i dont like the way the pieces look unless you really nail the printing conditions perfectly (which i assume shapeways will)

PLA is easiest and cheapest to work with. If I were doing this project myself, I would print in a neutral color PLA with close to 100% infill, 3 layer shell, and then just hand polish the surface with a very fine grit and some fluid to get it smooth like good ABS. Then paint to desired color.

Nylon was just a suggestion. Its a newer filament thats available that has cool applications but not really necessary for this project.

Once you get the dimensions finalized, just let people buy their own prints with their own specs from a printing company, and then post your personal donation beer fund info so people can show their respect for the time you are putting in. Designing pieces to print from scratch is not time-cheap as Im sure you know.

PLA has a melting point considerably lower than ABS, so it is unsuitable for printing car parts.

I will be printing a small batch in black ABS and selling them to the community finished and ready to install. I estimate based on my last project that 50-60% of people who say they are in actually are, so maybe 20 units or so.

I may put them on Shapeways so that people who want them in nylon can arrange to get a set that way but I'll have to get a print made and sent to me when I finalize the design to see if the finish is suitable. There's no point in me working on a non-DIY option if it requires DIY.

I'll have pictures of test fits over the weekend. If anybody wants to help me out, take a picture of the inside of your door pocket where the screw is and either send it to me as a PM or post it here.

I'd take the blue tape off but the pocket would fall to pieces.

Your door pockets are a different shape than mine. What year is your car and what is that tray thing? If I could get that door pocket I could make that version of it relatively easily at this stage.

Mine are much deeper and the insert looks like this.....

The thickest part is closest to the door.

Ah! That would explain it! I don't have the HiFi option! I could make it but until I get a door pocket for measuring up and test fitting I guess my option will be for non-hifi cars(as well as all cars back to 1973).
