Aye. I agree. 997TT is not worth putting through winter. It is your car, but I would advise against it on all but the nicestest of winter days (if you must at all).

Don't expect a ton of support from the forum on winter driving. But in the end it's your wheels and your love of the car that matters so plow snow if that's what rocks your socks.
There will always be examples of your car on the market, however as time passes they'll just be more expensive and even a car driven in winter will be a sought after item.

If I had a modern Porsche, no way I'd put it away for winter. Life's too short for that. Regular weekly washing at a touchless (to make sure the underside gets cleaned) should be fine.

I bought mine for this express purpose....driving this winter. But then again, it is a 1987 951 that was not maintained, and has been driven more this week than it was in the past three years (no clue about it's life before that, but not taken care of then either). The paint is severely chipped, the rockers need redone....so I consider it a beater. Now mind you, it is a VERY nice beater.

But if I had a newer one, I might regret doing so.

Just to clarify, I drive my 997C2 in the winter (daily driver) but a 993 TT is a special car. My two cents.

I know many people will always comment on how i shouldn't drive the car in winter.
And mostly i agree but these are the cards that have been dealt to me and at the moment.
On big snowstorms i will definitely not take the car out.
But my question was really in regards to the AWD system in these cars.
If someone can help me on that it would be great.

It is just a car!
And actually the car will work better if not stored.
A machine likes to be in motion. They last longer that way!

However, it is important to keep it clean.

The AWD will be great in the winter months. The weight in a 911 is in the right place, over the drive wheels, so even a 2WD car is nice.

I don't know your situation, but I can't see how the owner of a $70,000 15 year old exotic car finds himself in a situation where a $2500 beater (roughly equivalent to the cost of a tune up) isn't an option.

Anyway, your car, your choice. Functionally, it makes a great winter car.

Wash the undercarriage lots.

I will be getting a beater.
But I don't want to drive the beater. I want to drive the Porsche.
That's why my question was in regards to the AWD system.
Bad days beater will be out and Porsche ill be in the garage.

Winter tires are all you need. AWD is a plus but don't drive it without winter tires.

I'm sure a 993tt would be great fun in the winter with a pair of snows but mine will never see salt and slush. These are fairly rare, expensive cars that will depreciate less - right now lower mileage cars are actually appreciating - than pretty much anything else you can buy... and I want mine to last at least as long as me! I remember having this discussion 34 years ago with my Datsun Z buddies and my winter stored 260Z is the only one left. Salt and slush will increase operating costs and hasten any cars demise while a winter stored car will last indefinitely. Get a cheap car for the winter....if it must be a Porsche, a high mileage 996 can be had for a pitance.

When you drive a 944 Turbo you need all winter to fix the issues that crop up during the summer.
