I use the xbox wheel propped on my lap while sitting on the couch; pedals slide around the floor and my ergonomically shaped "race seat" provides as much support as a couple of throw pillows and a bathrobe can muster. My 42" LCD is 7 feet away, so it feels like the "windshield" of the VR cars are in another area code! Not the ideal set-up and I could probably get faster if I was closer to the screen, but it works well enough in the family room environment without building a dedicated xbox studio.

Honestly I don’t know how you could even see with something that old. I had a FM2 friend that was in the same boat as you. Actually a bit worse off because his kid also had the same old tv, and he felt bad if he upgraded his monitor and didn’t upgrade his kids tv at the same time. He never understood what he was missing until he finally went out bought 2 new 22” HD monitors.

Here is my new wheel with fancy strap down to help it not move around.

Haha, with the glass of vino beside the steering......dont drink and drive ! Now I know where the driver mistakes come from !

When I was asking what was the best time after a race I was not joking, it's because on my crappy TV I barely could read any numbers !!! Now I'm gradually going back to work after my motorcycle accident so I should be able to put some $$ on a better TV or monitor for the gaming room in the near future. I also like Mark's idea with the Wal Mart computer table, I will check that for sure. I would drill 4 holes on the base panel and put tie wraps to hold the pedal module, it would be better than tape ! If I can install my stuff solidly maybe I would finally enjoy driving with that damn wheel !

I'm looking to make the $99 wheel and pedal purchase before the next series starts... I had a racing wheel as a kid for the computer and the difference in the game's fun is night and day!

On the other hand... if anybody here has the xbox wheel and pedals and is looking to upgrade, I'll buy your old wheel off you! Let me know!

I went to Wal Mart after work and bought a portable computer desk similar to Mark's but it doesn't have the wood base. I'll take it to my office and fit a plywood base to it for the pedals so it'll be good to go in a few days.

Greg, I checked an Acer 22" LCD monitor while I was there. Resolution is 1680 x 1050 and it sells for $189.00...What do you think ?

1680x1050 and 22" is not very good. You should be able to find one the same price but is 1920x1080

Michel, remember to check the connections, because I had to get an adapter in order to use my computer monitor. I think Greg said something about the newer xbox's not needing this?

Just don't want you to end up buying a monitor and not being able to hook it up!

The old 360 has two options. RGB component cable or VGA cable, Both are available at big box stores where they sell 360's.

New 360's have HDMI cable.

I think Michel is using a plain yellow composite cable for video.

For audio you may need to get a mini stereo adapter to go from the red/white cable to a mini stereo jack to plug into computer speakers.

My XBox has an "AV" cable, big wide connector with a switch on it for TV or HD TV. At the other end there is the three connectors, red-yellow-white.

Thx Greg, I haven't looked carefully, my cable also has the green-blue-red connectors, I used those when it was connected to my HD TV in the living room, before I moved it in the basement to play online.
