I am keen to drive down and think I'll freight back. Drove 5k around the South Island round trip ex Auckland Easter 2012 and it was awesome. I lived in Chch for 7 years so the South Island is like a second home for me. There are some brilliant 2nd level state highways to take between here and Wellington for some amazing driving with no traffic for not many extra k's. in the South Island there are less highway options and Canterbury to invercargill is pretty bland BUT if we went via the west coast that's a different story, much more interesting. I haven't done any planning or accommodation yet. I have access to a 4 bedroom house in Wanaka 1 hour from Cromwell so may think about that with a few of you?

I've just booked 2 more rooms at Carrick, they only have the studios left. One with 2 single beds and one with a big bed (King I think), cost $135 per night. I'm on my own, so that will give us a few more spares.

My wife just decided it's all too hard as it's not school holidays. Assuming Macca takes the Studio then we have 6 beds possible in the 2 one bedroom units. Peter, Matt and I will take up 3, so 3 left to anyone wanting to take them.

Steve is taking Mandy down. If I can find a car seat to fit in the car I might take my wife and 2 year old daughter down as well.

I have also booked 2 more rooms, so 4 in all. One for Steve and Mandy and one for his man from Canada. Daniel may come down as well. We can always cancel a room or two closer to the time.

Ok, Macca has the studio I booked. I have two one bedrooms, which can take three adults each. Peter, Matt and I will take one. That leaves one one bedroom booked and free for some one to take. On top of that, Chris, you have how many rooms free?

As you said, we can cancel one or more if we've overdone it. The bigger problem would be being short of space. Not sure how many are actually on this trip. Obviously more than 70 if Golden gate full in 4 hours.

If Daniel comes it sounds like most of my rooms are gone. 3 are set-up with a king bed and one twin. 1 king for Steve, 1 king for Kelly (Canada), 1 king for me, and 1 twin room spare that may have Daniel and ? in it. This can be converted to a King bed for a couple if I give them notice closer to the time, so may also be an option for Sean.

I booked for 2 nights.

Hi Chris. Paul Miller has just advised that he will be now coming on the SI Tour. I dont think he has responded about a room so I would pencil him in for that spare or he will miss out...

Excellent, sounds we have about the right number. The lady (Raewyn) at Carrick did say that if we get stuck she can add more temporary beds in to rooms, so should be able to cope if Doug decides to stay with us as well.
