They don't have to be exported or crushed, you just have to renew the "COE" (certificate of entitlement) of the car for another 10 years and be prepared to pay higher annual road tax.

The Certificate of Entitlement (COE) for new cars is auctioned off in batches, based on a formula aiming to control vehicle population growth at 1 to 2% per annum IIRC. These auctions are held every fortnight and are in an open auction format (i.e. current bids are visible for all to see). There are 3 categories based on engine size which we won't get into.
The COE gives you the right to drive the car on Singapore roads for ten years. Current levels are around S$7k (about US$4.5k) for ten years. At the height, they traded for as high as S$120k. Each COE is attached to a specific car and is not transferable.
Latest results are here:
http://www.carbuyer.com.sg/coe/
Bear in mind that COE cost is in addition to the purchase price of the car, which usually includes customs and import taxes, as well as road taxes, registration fees, etc.
For cars over ten years old, the COE price is based on the average of the previous 6 results. You can "renew" the COE again at the end of each ten year period.
Some people renew their COE before the car's tenth birthday when they buy a used car in order to take a longer car loan.
There is also the question of PARF or residual value, based on the taxes paid when the car was bought new, which disappear on the tenth birthday if the COE is renewed. If the car is scrapped or exported, you can claim this PARF value back from the Government. These values are usually around S$80k (US$50k) or so for a ten year old 911. So their is great incentive not to renew the COE -- which keeps the car population here relatively young.
It's a Draconian system, but it helps to keep the roads flowing.
There's also electronic road pricing... but that would take another ten minutes to explain...

Long shot but worth a try nonetheless....
Am looking for a pre-loved 964 Manual (preferably C2 although C4 also considered) in good mechanical condition. PM me if you have one for sale.

roadsleeper, hackzi managed to find one last week. Picked it up on Friday IIRC.
Amethyst red C2 manual with tan leather. Believe this car used to be kermit green - like a matte viper green sorta thing.
We had a good meet on Sunday -- 1 993 RS, 1 993 TT, 2 993 C4S, 1 73 RS rep and the aforementioned 964. Check the carfreaks Singapore forum if you aren't already on there. Will probably be doing a drive for aircooled cars end June/ early July.

foxfrc5 - Cool. I'll check out the forum. Glad to know that the air-cooled scene is heating back up in SG.
hackzi - Welcome to the club
Were you parked on B1 on the hotel side of One Fullerton on Saturday (I think)?
If nothing else, try stripping some of the heavier interior components out (i.e., bucket seats, lighter carpet, etc.), since you have a C2, a lot of the weight will be in the interior. After that, do chip, intake and exhaust and maybe even hotter cams and you'll be pretty happy

roadsleeper, can you share the Pelican thread info? BTW the Carfreaks forum is having some trouble with spam. The site founder is trying to clean it up. In the meantime, just look for the "911 for sale" thread under the "Porsche Zone". That's the most active thread. Lots and lots of OT posts, but mainly on 911s. All of the above guys -- 1 993 RS, 1 993 TT, 2 993 C4S, 1 73 RS rep, plus more -- are on the forum from time to time. Quite a few 964 owners too.
